Douk-Douk or Mercator k55k?

Lee Valley is SOLD OUT! I guess there are alot of readers that did not post on this thread, but did order!

Me too. I got a couple on the way. As soon as I read your post a couple of days ago I ordered immediately knowing they wouldn't last long. They were out the next day after I ordered when I checked again. Thanks for the heads up. That was a deal with the free shipping.

Got my three today. Gave one to my son, put one into my EDC box, and one in my collection for non use. They are nice knives that I am gald I finally got and at a good price, but I must say the Mercator K55s are much better in many ways. The feel, finish and lock up ( even on the small non locking K55) are all better than the Douk Douk models. I think the Germans win this one!

Tried to order some from Lee Valley, all gone, guess you guys got 'em all. Had to order mine from France, not cheap but I NEEDED a large Douk Douk to go with my small.:)

My EDC is small carbon Douk Douk and I love it slim, strong, sharp and getting older as me I don´t need more ;-)

I remember one source listed a version with a Stainless blade. Can't remember where I saw it. Anyone have a lead or source for the K55 with a Stainless blade?

Your knife carry is your business of course but I heartily recommend the carbon blade Mercator. With a soft Arkansas stone I get mine terrifyingly sharp and it develops a really nice soft patina.

I guess I wasn't the only lucky one !! Scored two from Lee Valley yesterday , just from asking if they had any left. Paid $12.50. Pretty solid piece it is .

That's what I get for not asking, paid double that for mine.:rolleyes::mad:

(digging in the graves of old topics)

my most favourite knives:

on EDC - Eka Swede 38 (as non-scary knife) and Mercator. Eka Swede 60 as a field working knife.

But it is offtopic ^_^

Two more pictures of Mercator:

I have a Mercator and a Douk Douk and will vote for the Black Cat hands down. Superior craftsmanship for such a great price! Sharper edge from the start and much easier to open and shut IMHO. Powder coating paint on the handle is a plus too. In fact I would put my Higonokami over the Douk Douk. If you want a French knife at low cost I'd go with the Opinel #8 or #9.

Wow, old thread.

.....but then most of the knives mentioned within are old.

Those knives dont change, why should the custom of bringing back old threads change.

Douk over Mercator. Opinel over Douk for me.

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and new to collecting pocket knifes. I was excited to receive my Douk-Douk in the mail, only to see that there's something wrong with the finish on the blade. Since it's a cheaper knife, I wanted to make sure this is not how they look/are manufactured before I return it.

thanks!

If you are talking about the rough "scale" on the knife's spine that is completely normal. If one is so inclined I'd imagine some sandpaper and elbow grease would take care of that.
