The spines are all rough and unfinished, there's nothing wrong with it.

I'd take my Douk Douk over any Opinel and I didn't much care for my Higonokami.

I reckon that's why there are so many brands and styles out there!
We each have our preferences and favorites! I've taken all three to work with me and after days of opening boxes, cutting cardboard , Styrofoam, rope and plastic bands, I'll stick with the Black Cat then go with the Higo before the Douk, mostly because it's a bugger to open and shut in comparison. I will try applying some graphite and see if that helps the situation any.
very old thread Sir......Which size Douk Douk do you recommend? I'm torn between the one with the 3" blade and the one slightly larger.
I have a Mercator, DD, Opinel and a Higonokami. All are great fun but the Mercator would be preferred in my case for EDC. The DD is really hard to open.
It is amazing how different those two folded sheet metal handles feel in hand. The Mercator is much more comfortable than the Douk-douk.
