Like we do here in Nepal they use newspapers for packing. While unpacking our last shipment this AM this one jumped out at me.

What you are seeing here is the reaction of wife and kids to news that husband and dad, Bharat Duekal, a Nepali policeman, was ambushed and murdered by Maoists.

I think this picture may give you a better understanding about what it's like right now for the people of Nepal.

Keep in mind there is no widow's fund, no social services, no WIC, no food stamp or welfare program for these people. Only family, friends and determination to survive will save this poor mother and her kids.

It's a sad situation that just keeps dragging on. Somebody mentioned enlisting some mercs and voluteers. I'm just about ready if I can find somebody to carry my antique .38 and a couple of khukuris for me. And maybe me when he hit the foothills.

So it's one confirmed dead, 3 wounded, extent yet to be determined.

4 lives blown to hell with a single, or at most a few rounds.

A month or so back a friend was in a financial bind and I paid him fair market price for a couple cases of 7.62x39 ammo, and a half case of 9x18. 'Bout a dime a round. One thin dime to cause the devastation above? Sounds obscene to me.

But turn it around and put the shoe on the other foot, in the hands of the "average" person who finds and then returns repeatedly to this forum. The person who responds without reservation to requests for prayers like Federico's for his dad - and mine for my uncle.

You guys are folks I'd not only turn my back on but feel perfectly comfortable taking a catnap around. ( Even STsimi, bless his preverted little heart. )

Correction: change ( average person ) above to ( usual suspects ).

I guess I should be greatful I live in a country that even with it's faults lets me, and many other forumites like me, keep the means to protect my family and myself. To those who don't live in such a place, my regrets.

The look on that little boy's face is truly hearbreaking. Can't imagine what they must be feeling.

Just as a reminder for all of us to thank our lucky stars I'm going to keep this up for a day or two.

I'm an old child protective services worker here. After about 500 cases you don't see their faces any more.

And sometimes I can even make myself halfway believe that, if I just keep saying it long enough.

Oh God, let there be a hell. I didn't say that.

Here is more proof that you can reside in the U.S., enjoy all the benefits of an open society, and all of the media that wealth can afford you, and still be as ignorant and pompous as the rest of the world thinks we are.

What is happening in Nepal is a real tragedy. It is every bit as serious and deadly as what we see happening in the Middle East, and yet we hear virtually nothing. Instead our media treats to an endless parade of brutish platitudes. We know everything about the latest Hollywood facelift, the dangers of overdosing on fill-in-the-blank, those leathal cellphones, and even the shear risk that someone will hijack an airplane with the pin on the back of their broach. I guess there is no two ways about it. We are ignorant, and too stupid to know it. You would think we would be ready to rise up in mass and storm the nearest media outlet to hang the editors, or at least stand in protest. Perhaps too many many people have forgotten that the First Amendment is something you should stand on and not hide behind.

There is an old line that comes to mind when I see something like that picture. "There is no wrong that lasts forever, and no body that can stand it." Ultimately, things will pass and these folks will see a better day. Let's just hope it happens sooner rather than later for all our sakes.

There's 50 or 60 pictures just like this one for Friday's work by the Maoists when they paraded naked down the street the cops and then chopped their heads off -- and remember that's just a days work. This story is repeated many times everyday.

The more I think about it the madder I get.

rusty, I spent years as a psychiatric nurse, many with the criminally insane, including several with sex offenders, and many on an acute recieving unit. Yet I didn't understand the full circle of pain until I had children.

Today my wife is in mental health, and I cannot stand to hear a single story. I must have been tougher when I was young.

I have viewed this picture several times and I get the same feeling every time I see it.

As close as I can come to describing the feeling is hot and cold at the same time if that makes sense. Like a deep, cold, Rage and loathing. I better quit here while I can still type.

Im ready when you are Uncle Bill.

Bill,

Thanks for putting me in my place today. I was starting to feel picked on because my car broke down and I had to walk to work yesterday and today.

I was in Guatemala during a fierce Coup. I know what it's like to walk the streets in fear.

Or, at least, I knew... :(

The pain they feel now is nothing compared to the years of unanswered questions, lost memories, nightmares, paranoia yet to come.

Something must be done, and soon.

This is just further evidence (if one needed any) of the cruelty of men against men in the world we live in.

Another reason we need our Marines, Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors. Most US citizens have no comprehension of the barbarity awaiting outside our gates should they fall.

Time to count my blessings again.
