Down in the dumps... Gonna buy a "chopper" to cheer myself up.

I rarely hear this one suggested... Ontario Kukri. It's the best chopper I have and I think its a great value. 11.5" blade and $60-70, or something like that. I don't know. Check it out maybe.

I usually see them for about $55. Much lighter than I expected but with the factory edge it didn't chop as well as I thought it would. I took it to the worksharp so we'll see if it's any better. Need to practice with it more anyway.

I don't suggest that one usually cause Condor provides better options, for less money.

Cool. What would you recommend for around that size from Condor?
I did like the 1095 of the Ontario. Can you compare the 1075 used by Condor to the 1095? Generally speaking, how will they differ in performance? I don't have any 1075 experience.

The Svord Von Tempsky is a good one IMHO, and sports some really cool traditional styling. The only thing I tried to improve was the addition of a lanyard, a must for any big fixed blade AFAIC, wrapped around the hand of course, and not through the wrist. They're kinda spendy, but even at that I feel like I got a heck of a knife for the money. Svord makes a ton of overlooked, cool stuff aside from their peasant knives.

For a chopper I'd go with the Village Parang or Golok(waiting to get the new Bushcraft parang)...haven't tried Condor's kukri but theoretically it should be comparable too. The performance is pretty much the same, but I find Condor to have a more functional and useful edge out of box, which combined with the better sheath and lower price puts them ahead in my recommendation list. I don't dislike the Ontario, it's just that they cost more without an improvement in performance.

I didn't like the Condor Kukri when I handled it. Seemed much smaller than a khuk should be (I've had a few HI khukuris in the past). I much prefer the golok for those irresistible chopping urges, were I to choose between the 2. Haven't handled the Parang yet, but I plan to pick one up this summer.
