I just received my slightly modified (3 inch blade) 'Woodsman' w/ bloodwood handle and it is a well made and nice looking knife. At 3/16 inch it has a unique solid feel compared to the 1/8 stock custom utilities I have collected. I was afraid it might not slice well, but cutting up some cardboard, paper, stabbing and slashing at my eucalyptus tree and then some tomatos in that order, put my mind at ease. Handle is thick and comfortable for all four grips and my hand didn't slip when pushing down hard on cardboard or when stabbing the tree. I asked Doug to make me a sheath for horizontal carry, but he did one better as the kydex sheath is infinitely adjustable from horizontal to tip down - simple and ingenious design.
I coincidentally received three custom EDC in the mail yesterday, but this is the one that will be going out on a hike this weekend.
Doug went above and beyond making sure my knife needs/wants were met from the design stage of blade and handle lengths, adding thumb grooves, adjusting carry of kydex sheath, and sending me many pics of wood to choose from. And I got updates of the progress every day or two. It was a pleasure working w/ Doug and a refreshing change from the BS you sometimes run into in life.
Now for the Ugly: One of the reasons I think Doug makes knives is because he doesn't 'cut' it as a photographer. His pics are kind of flat, lifeless, and could be clearer. His knife in hand is waaay nicer than the portrayal. But maybe that's why his prices are so low...so don't tell him.;)
PS. Out of the twenty or so knives I've got, this is the only one I've cut myself on . http://dpknives Regards, John Otsu
