DPx HEST 2.0 Folding Knife Review & Videos (PIC HEAVY) H.E.S.T - TrueKnifeReviews

I received mine last Saturday, been playing with it since. The lockbar is very tight but I like it that way. The pivot is also screwed tight, again, a good thing. The knife seems to warant it.
The blade didn't come supersharp but that was easily fixed on the Sharpmaker. I haven't found anything else even slightly amiss with the knife. The blade is a bit smaller than I expected, in spite of knowing it's only 3". Nice and thick though. ;)
This looks to be a keeper. It feels very very solid indeed, grip is very comfy and the knife exudes strength.

A special thank you to mossyhorn, who helped me lay my grubby hands on yet another knife I didn't need but wanted badly. :D

Received my HEST 2.0 yesterday in the mail. The thing I like about it most is it's size, its very comparable in size to a Buck Vantage Large, just a a bit thicker. You hardly notice it in your pocket, this is a plus for me but I do feel it could use a smaller pocket clip. My copy has no issue with how the the blade opens. With one hand it opens smoothly and locks up tight with no blade play. The G10 is nice and grippy and it feels good in the hand. I do have two gripes which both have to deal with closing the knife. First is how hard it is to close, the lockbar sticks and at times is so tight I have to check to see if it's locked with the rotoblock. I'm hoping that this will get better with use/wear and become more fluid over time. The second gripe is of more concern to me, the rotoblock. The rotoblock rotates loosely and can engage at random, this becomes a big pain in the ass when trying to close your blade and you find out the rotoblock has engaged itself. Now, this is the first knife for me that uses a rotoblock but honestly I don't get this feature and feel it's useless. If you make the knife lockup tight then there shouldn't be any reason to have a device that locks the blade open, seems redundant. This is just my opinion and maybe someone can show me the light on this feature but this is the one thing I would change about the knife for the 3.0 version, ditch the rotoblock. Other than those two issues, which are more of a inconvenience than a deal breaker, I really like the blade. I look forward to carrying the knife and putting it through the ringer to see how it performs. So far it opens my beers flawlessly:D

the roto block shouldn't be that loose... u should have to actually have to turn it to lock the frame lock. contact customer service to see what u can do.

Just wanted to double check when the rotoblock seems to be engaging, I know mine and the 1.0 rotos would lock in if you waved them or opened them really hard. I'm not sure if it was the inertia from opening them or what, but I've never had mine "accidentally" lock up except under very hard flick or wave opens.

i really dont think its feature for it to engage when it is waved because i think it would be listed as a feature

I also got one from mossyhorn. It came a few days ago and has taken over as my EDC ahead of my Chris Reeves and other more expensive knives. I like the ruggedness of it.

My roto block seems to be engaging from my grip, not inertia. When positioning the blade in my hand the slightest touch can rotate and engage the roto block. I could probably send it to see about tightening that up in but it's not that big of a deal to me, more of a inconvenience really. I must say that it has highjacked my pocket and kicked a few frequent flyers to the blade drawer, very nice little blade.

I'm loving mine. Roto block turns easily, but with the right amount of pressure and does not accidentally engage. Hope this doesn't change. Knife has a very strong detent and can be a bit tough to deploy, but once you get the hang of it - it opens smoothly with the right amount of pressure to the thumb stud. This is definitely an intended design feature to increase safety in a survival situation. Mine has broken in nicely in the last few weeks after applying a bit of lube. The only problem I have is that you have to be careful when waving it. It has a fairly narrow handle, so if you don't hold it right, you can cut yourself when deploying it this way. Also, sometimes when I wave it the lock bar can lock up so securely that it can be difficult to disengage.

The washer in-between the blade and the handles are thinner making the knife feel more concealable.

its amazing what a few thousands of an inch can do LMAO

I've had my eye on the HEST for some time now but the blade size has kept me from purchasing one. Anyone know whether or not DPx plans on releasing a larger version of the HEST?

Now that we have had this knife for some time now..What problems if any are popping up ??

With me it has serious lock rock.. I think the D2 is way to hard to sharpen. At first I thought it to be a keeper but after getting no responses to several emails to see if I could get this taken care of its going in the dud box. I am going to try one more time to contact them.

Kind of a timely bump here because I got one of these a few weeks ago and recently did my own review on it. I wasn't a fan of the teflon washers and I found that my lock sticked a lot. I was able to fix that issue with some graphite on the lock bar, but I'm now worried that blade play will develop as I can feel the lock bar sliding up and down a little. It looks like they made some nice refinements with version 2.0 of the knife, but the lock is not 100% for me. I would not recommend using the bottle opener as a "wave" either - the HEST did not seem to like that. My rotoblock engages pretty easy too - happened when I was filming my review a couple times.

It's a cool knife and I like a lot of stuff about it, but I am not entirely confident in the lock. I also think phosphor bronze washers are a must for a $175+ hard use folder.

ive had and used mine a lot for about 3 months no problems at all!

its kinda funny though whenever i put a drop of oil on the pivot the lock turns from a nice smooth lock to it sticking..... anybody might know why that happens? after a few open and closes it goes away and is smooth again just thought that was kinda funny.
