dpx hest folder or no???

I had an LE, and still have a production model.

The LE was OK, had the tip issue, and the lock had slight vertical movement when new. I sent it back, they sent it to Italy, it came back solid as hell and fixed up, and I sold it because I knew I wasnt going to use it.

In the 2.5 months it took for the LE to get back to me, I sent back a production because it closed on my fingers and cut the hell out of me. They sent me a new one that folded up when spine pressure was applied, right out of the box. It didnt "break in" either, it just got worse, so it went back as well.

I got another one back from them that feels alright, but it appears the way that the lock was "fixed" was roughing up the lockfaces so they do not slide. The angle is the same.

I am probably going to sell the one I have as well, as after my experiences, I believe the lock design to have a major geometry flaw regarding where the lock is in comparison to the pivot, and the angle of the lockface is all wrong.

DPx has been very pleasant to deal with throughout the entire ordeal, I must say that.

ya i misunderstood on the those i thought knife connection had them in stock but they are pre order for the second run... and i keep waiting and waiting for the stinking izula folder...

and i keep hearing about the bad rep of the ryp name but cant find anything...

I carried the same knife for 9 years before my LE HEST Folder replaced it. The wait sucked but it's a great knife... love the blade shape and compact package. Customer service has been excellent and very eager to please.

I haven't had a problem with the lock. When I first got the knife the lock was so positive that I had to pry it open. It has since loosened up and I can close it with one hand. It still locks well but isn't a pain to unlock.

I should note that I trust my fingers to no lock.

I am not sure anyone specifically answered your question.

And Oh yeh and the owner of DPX is a dickweed.

I think the folder is a much better piece than the fixed blade, but after the way RYP acted on here, I can't bring myself to buy one. I agree with MikeyJ. It's shame, because I really like the knife.

i purchased a production hest/f last month without a care for all the drama with ryp and qc issues on the LE models. if you can get past all the nonsense, its a great knife. the blade is ridiculously thick and the knife is heavy as hell in your hands. it rides surprisingly well in pocket though. if you like it and can find it, go for it :).

I wouldn't count on the 0561/560 being below 200 on release. MAP is at 260$ right now, and given demand and intial short run supply, prices will probably be up a bit, though below MAP from any dealer that offers a competitive price. Of course, there may be exceptions, but so far for the preorders none of the dealers have quoted me anything (though I have the 0777 preordered, so I'll have to wait a bit before I can budget for the Hinderer design).

The Emerson HD-7's or the CQC-12's haven't been made for a while now and they routinely fetch $300+ in excellent to NIB condition.

The problem for some is that the pride of knife ownership is directly tied-to the reputation of the knifemaker/knife brand. It he happens to be someone you couldn't stand to be near, how could you appreciate his product? I suppose some can get around that fact, but many of us cannot.

100%agree with the geometry....I had the same scenario

I really wanted to like the knife. It's a ti framelock with quality steel for a reasonable price. But, then RYP had to open his mouth. That sealed the deal for me. No matter how much I like the looks of the knife, I refuse to consider buying one. For the record, I liked the looks of the regular one. The one with the silly graphics on the blade looks like it was designed by a 12 year old.

I have a LE sterile and I really enjoy it. I use it much more than my strider. I enjoy the wave feature. I let the knife speak for itself. I don't care about all the drama. In my opinion it is a great value hard use folder.

I am also curious if anyone has heard anything on the Izula folder??

hey man thanks for all this info really helpful!!

i totally understand that and followed the hate on this board for ryp. lucky for me i asked myself if i liked the knife more than the designer and was able to overlook his actions. i also dont mind buying knives from china and knock offs/inspired knives IE sanrenmu etc :).

ymmv, to each their own

The HEST Folder is the best EDC knife I own. The blade can be tightened or loosened to suit use and regulatory requirements. Nice big blade in a small enough package to keep with you. Flick open from pocket or thumb. Lock for hard use. Bloody good.
I rather that the complainers get something inferior - serve them well for confusing a great tool with hype. True case of Substace vs Form ( substance is the material or essential part of something, as distinguished from form, which is the observance of a legal or technical manner or order.)

I'm waiting (forever) on the new model which is supposed to be an improved version.

I bought one here on the forum and it has displaced my emerson and spyderco for edc. bottle opener works great and works as a wave too (without always getting stuck in you pocket). The shape of the blade is wonderful.

Overall I am really happy with it and really glad that I bout it.
