Dr. Frankenstein, The Saga Continues!!!

So, I ground the blade last night, and hand sanded the deep sanding marks out. I also filed the swedge and cleaned up the long pull. So far so good, everything is looking straight and even. There are some imperfections which I will clean up after hardening. Not perfect by any means, but a decent first attempt.

What do ya think?

I really like that swedge and blade shape in general. In my opinion it will be an almost perfect carry knife! If it was a sheepsfoot then I would say it will be the perfect carry knife lol. Have you decided on scales yet?

I have some nice blue/green mammoth bark ivory that I have been saving for a special occasion... I think this would be an appropriate use for it :D

I intend to add stainless barlow bolsters as well. They should compliment the dark mammoth bark quite nicely. I'll probably be working on the scales tonight, as I am going to heat treat the blade and spring tomorrow, and I would like to have it ready to go when the HT is completed. Of course I will be documenting the process along the way! Stay tuned for more updates coming tonight or tomorrow!

Looking good Evan!
Really want to see how it will turn out at the end.

Took me longer than I expected, but I finally got around to making my scales. Stainless barlow bolster with some rich brown mammoth bark ivory:

I used the same process to make the scales and bolsters as in the tutorial at the beginning of this thread. The bolsters came out nice and even, and the mammoth looks nice, but over all, I think I could have done a better job. I'm just trying to get this one under my belt so I can go for round 2! What do you guys think?

Congratulations! You did well.
I missed the last couple posts so I just read over the whole process. Knifemaking requires a bit of mental acuity. Looking at the jig you built makes me feel totally inadequate. :o
I hope you keep them coming with more photos. I'll follow this thread for sure.

This looks fantastic evan! I hope you're feeling proud of yourself :D

Thank you for all the kind words everyone! I truly appreciate the support!!

Sorry I haven't come back with an update, I decided to get my blades and springs professionally heat treated, and that has delayed my progress on this knife. Instead of sending a single blade out for HT, I am working on a few others to send with it! I'll post an update soon on those. Thanks for staying tuned!!

Super work,Evan! I just went through the whole thread and really appreciate all the work you put in to show us how its done! I have produced threads like this with some radio controlled gliders I have built and understand just how much effort is involved.

Thanks again and the thread is book marked so I can follow any future efforts you put into it and use it for reference.

Dude, I haven't been able to frequent the forum as much lately and came back to all these awesome progress pics! Can't wait to see the final product and watch you continue to learn, improve, and innovate.

This seems like a good thread to showcase a few of my Esnyx mods... I'm sure he doesn't mind!

Awesome! Thanks for the very detailed write up and pictures. Extremely interesting. Also, how come the stainless steel sheet slackener thing has a folding knife frame? Is it a folding slackener? :P

Have you made anything with the Sunfish/Lumberjack/Whaler knife or scales?
