Drawing The Line - Sebenza for EDC

An email has been sent to CRK with ideas for a unique......WHICH I INTEND TO CARRY for a loooong time! I'm anxiously waiting a reply back, so I can't imagine what it will be like waiting for the finished product!

I was more concerned about longevity of appearance when I posed my question, and you kind folks provided me with the input I needed. I'm not only concerned about what the knife looks like when I carry it, but I'm equally concerned about what it will look like when I'm done carrying it.

My plan is to have a set of 3 knives created. Each knife is designed to be representative of a specific child. They will know which one is "theirs" and will surely take pride knowing "Dad's using my knife today". Don't we all carry or have one of Dad's or Grampa's old knives? Doesn't it evoke great memories?

Now go one step further....what if the knife you rcvd. was especially made in honor of you and was carried and used by your Dad for numerous years. I can think of only a few things that would instill as much pride, or have as great an heirloom quality. Hence, my request for info on daily carry of "non-standard" Sebenzas. I thank you for your indulgence and will post pics when I've received the first knife :).

Terrapin Flyer,

I spoke to Anne today regarding a matter I was having CRK research for me, and asked a question along the same lines as the direction you want to explore. I have a Custom / Unique Design Sebenza on order with CRK. For a variety of reasons there is a pattern that I worked out with Anne and Lisa when I placed the order for this knife a couple of weeks ago. The interesting part of the discussion today was the possibility of sending a Large and Small Plain Sebenza and having a Silver Contrast Graphic done that closely approximates the Unique. That way I can use a graphic for day to day rough and tumble use and "save" the Unique with anodizing for more civilized activities ;)

Just something for you to think about. Maybe an underlying theme with specific touches as they relate to your offspring.

Good luck!

I'm considering the purchase of my first Sebenza. Notice I said "first" as I've noted from reading around BF that this particular knife requires regular and ever increasing doses.

I realize there are different levels of this knife, from the small plain to wood inlayed, damascus-bladed wonders. My question to those who carry a "Sebbie" is this......

What is the most extravagant Sebenza you presently use for EDC?

Terrapin Flyer,

More then 9 out 10 will buy a sm or lg plain; then buy the other plain.

Now having two and loving them; it's time for an Umfaan to complete the Zulu Trio (Z3). :)

Now having the Z3; it's time for that special wood inlay in sm or lg which every you liked best.

For me it was the small redwood inlay Sebenza.

Since I have the sm plain that I carry every day; I can't bring myself to use the small wood inlay. :(

Knowing what I know now; the thing to do for me would have been just to buy the small wood inlay and use and enjoy that and I would have not need to buy the other 3 plain.
