Dream Steel of Choice

Do people really have that much of an issue with rust that they would chose H1? I am around salt water a lot as I live on the coast about half of every month plus live in very humid Florida. I just don't have that big of a problem with rust even using knives on the boat and coming into contact with salt water. I wipe it off when I am done and rinse it when I get home and even my M4 EDC has not had a problem along the wide edge bevel (it is coated). H1 is great for when I am actually swimming or diving in salt water and it is nice to not have to think about washing it off but it is not what I would want for the rest of my life. In fact H1 looses its edge much too quickly for me to carry it more than the occasional swim in the ocean. I am somewhat of a steel snob and like a steel that gets scary sharp and keeps it for a long time and H1 just does not do that in my experience. I guess I'm just wondering if people really have that big of a problem with rust that they would sacrifice edge retention for corrosion resistance and what they are doing (or not doing) for it to be such a problem.

I'm not saying that some people wouldn't need this steel, because I'm sure that some people have issues with rust, but for me the appeal is just coolness factor... also especially in a folder it is nice to to have to flush everything carefully all the time. I would say that edge retention trumps that for me though... guess its personal preference.

I really like my CTS-XHP and would probably choose that. There's tons of other good steels, but I could even live with VG-10, as it sharpens up easily, holds a good edge, and had decent rust/corrosion resistance.

15v's composition is insane ... i haven't seen any maker use it yet. 3,4% carbon and 14,5% vanadium ... this must be "ungrindable".
