Exactly. Practice on POS kitchen knives or old choppas. My hand piece goes to 11 but I rarely run it above 2 because I made the mistakes on an old file.

Hands-down, the most helpful and significant accessory to make easier mods to my knives:
Dremel Flex Shaft
Makes control much easier. Put the knife in a vise, and jimping, grinding, etc. is much easier with two handed detail control.

I have an older model Dremel, and years ago the cable became frayed. It was the one where you hung the actual tool on a stand. Anyways, I always loved that thing, but you can no longer get the cable for it. It's outdated.
