Dress boots for outrunning zombies

I would suggest these:

http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/mens/outdoor/track-ii-high/2/detail.aspx

I have played tennis, volleyball and use them as my hiking boots as well. They are not the stiff ridged kind of boots that seem to dominate the suggestions so far, but they are excellent. I see they no longer come in black, but that is a quick fix by either yourself or your local cobbler. Kelly's leather prep and dye products work very well.

Again, no one boot style will fit everyone, but this one is the cat's meow for me.

Cheers.

Doug

I have Jungle, Desert, Danner’s and Carolina 4x4’s {work Great boot by the way}}those of the above would be a all around Field/office/travel boot. Hope’s this helps you in your search.

I have to wear dress shoes for work, and I used to try to pass off 5.11 black boots as "dressy"...while they were lightweight and fairly comfortable, combat boots just don't look the part.
I have found that Cole Haan offers truly dressy looking shoes/boots that are built on Nike Air souls. They are remarkably comfortable, and will pass anywhere for dress footwear.

HH Brown owns many brands. They were Corcoran boots, and USA made. I think these are the boots you wore:

Here is their site. http://www.corcoranandmatterhorn.com/Category.asp?Gender=Mens&CategoryID=34
You're right they do look nice as standard military boots often do when polished up. But I'm not sure how comfortable or durable they would be.

I have some Corcoran leather flight boots an Air Force pal of mine gave me. Holy crap are those things heavy! They took a while to break in, but they're absolutely bombproof and very comfortable. I wear them as riding boots these days, though. Too heavy to run in--I'll make the horse carry 'em. :D

I used to have two pairs of Canadian military parade boots. The were ankle high polished black leather. They sort of looked like a police boot. I could walk in them for miles without getting tired. They had a hard rubber sole and nicely shaped toe. They looked good enough to wear with a tux but they were boots. THE best and most comfortable boots or shoes I ever owned. They were made by HH Brown.

I bought them well over 10 years ago and haven't been able to find new ones again. I ruined both pairs wearing them in the winter in Toronto. They salt the sidewalks to melt the ice and it ruins leather.

I would love to find another pair!

I wore Greb Kodiak boots forever. Now I just go down to Wally and get some cheap pair made buy a dude with three fingers and one tooth somewhere in India. My feet stink and I mean STINK. No point putting powder in there because I will still kill them eventually. So I view boots as disposable footware. I usually get one year, maybe two out out of a pair of boots for metal detecting\outdoor romping. They get one silicone spray in the spring then go through water, mud, ice, goose crap, whatever. I have thought of military surplus also but the ''one toothers'' usually have better foot padding.

I agree that the foot padding is necessary and often lacking in the military surplus boots. I'm sure the Belleviles mentioned are likely the same. At least they would have better support than my current pair of Doc Martins. They are really uncomfortable. I tested them out yesterday. I had planned to walk eight miles, I only walked five. They hurt. Even with thick wool socks (someone would ask if I didn't mention it) and aftermarket foot bed, they still hurt. They're especially bad with hard impacts from jumping. They're just fashionable dress boots. I'm sure the Danners would be better, though I really don't know. I just assume. By the way, I have a pair of really nice looking Cole Haan dress shoes and they are the most uncomfortable shoes I own. I've had some good luck in the past with shoes and boots made by "one tooth". He made a great pair of hiking shoes that I bought from Walmart a few years back under the brand Earth Shoe. I wore out the soles of those shoes. How many times does that happen? This was years ago and I still remember those shoes. I went back after a year or so to buy several pairs but they had changed the style and no longer carried it. :(

Yes it takes away from the day if a guy is foot hurt. I come home some days and later that night it feels like my feet are burning, simply from too much walking. Most days I'm ok. Gel inserts have been an option for me in the past. When they stink, into the washing machine. I really do believe in cushoning inside heavy use footware. And ankle support................. I spent time in the very far north (Lake Athabasca) and the shoreline was fractured rock. My ankles were tortured from loose fitting thermal insert rubber boots. But the fishing was so good that I kept going out obsessively. Flat land no big deal, hilly fractured rock, I have to get something that snugs around and supports the ankle. All that twisting and turning takes a toll by the end of the day. For me anyway. :)

I bought some Havana Joe's in 1998. Most comfortable boot I ever tried, and one of the most comfortable shoes. Also my most expensive, at around $200.
Not quite as dressy as "dress boots", but smooth and black, so not bad. I'd wear 'em with slacks in the winter.
3rd time I wore 'em was a 12 mile hike w/ 60lb pack. My walking buddies had blisters and sores in their supposedly broken-in high-dollar outdoor-brand dedicated hikers. I had mild hotspots.
On the way out, they were worn in (and my pack was lighter) to the point I didn't even have hotspots.
Had 'em resloed around 2005. New soles came off in under a year, and insole was wearing thin, so I had to toss 'em.
Store I got 'em at doesn't carry the brand anymore. Haven't found a suitable replacement, but from this thread I'm going to try to find Vasque Sundowner GTX, and Danner (Mtn Light, Workman GTX and Romeo?), to see if any fill the bill.

For zombies, you need steel toed boots, which also feature puncture proof soles. The steel toes will allow you to put a hurtin' on Those People, and the puncture resistance will let you walk through all the demolished buildings/broken glass they'll be chasing both of you through.

Your female sidekick will need high heeled, knee-high leather lace up combat boots, designed to hi-light her incredible figure. No doubt she should sport overly revealing leather skin-tight "action figure" clothese, and naturally curly shoulder length brunette hair. Remember the blow.

You'll thank me when you get back. If you get back.

Pics to clarify?:D

Keep in mind that zombies are mesmerized by tap-dancing, so you might want to consider a quality-pair of tap-dancing shoes. They look more like dress shoes than those boots, too. Check the yellow-pages for lessons and sign up for a few!

I think the consensus is for Danner boots. To bad though. They're very expensive and so it will have to wait.

Drive by...like I said I "used" to be a hard-core Danner man and have found since they've been purchased and are no longer a family own business quality is now lacking. But you mind find your experience differently. If you're really hard set on Danner, then give their only retail store a call in Portland Oregon. They have a H U G E warehouse/Show Room and part of it is dedicated to their "seconds." I've owned both firsts and seconds and honestly cannot tell the difference. Generally they're seconds because of a cosmetic blemish didn't meet their QC/QA standard. I've owned a lot of Danners and have purchased equal amounts of firsts and seconds with seconds as every bit as good as the first.

The cool factor is the seconds are considerably lesser expensive. Give them a call and see if they have any seconds in stock of your model. It is worth a call at least.

Update May 07, (I don't like to leave a thread unresolved)
I ordered a pair of Danner Fort Lewis Uninsulated boots.
Let's see how I like them.
For those who threw in suggestions, thank you.

A fictional character I have always admired is James Bond. He's like a super hero. His power? He can run and jump in dress shoes. I don't know how he does it. Surfing on a wave caused by a falling ice burg in the Arctic? I could see that. But running in dress shoes? I say nay nay. I can can put on some sneakers and walk at least a dozen miles right now. But in the dress shoes and boots I have, and I some nice pairs, I could barely go two miles. Even my doc martens start to hurt in under five miles. Most of the time I have to wear nice dress shoes or boots when out and about. That poses a problem should the need to run or at least hike on foot arise. I may not be able to reach my car for a change in footwear. So being a mere mortal, I need some some suggestions for a nice pair of tactical boots to wear all the time that can pass as formal dress wear.

This one could work. It looks great. Obviously I would change to black laces. But it cost $390:eek:
15600

I'm looking for smooth black leather boots. I've gotten away with doc martins and could wear them, but they're not comfortable for me. I would take shoes meant for skateboarding into the woods with me before I took doc martins. I despise them that much. I recently tried on some Under Armor boots and found them to be only slightly less comfortable then my down slippers, and only a little bit heavier. They would be perfect if they were dressy. But they're not. They scream tactical. I'm trying to avoid that.

I look forward to the suggestions.

Zombies!
The Rands look cool but seem more fashion than function to me. The Zappos look comfortable. As for those rock ports, I'd like the meet the man that ran a marathon in them.

I received my Danner Fort Lewis boots the other day! Awesome! I laced them up immediately and they felt comfortable right out of the box. First impressions with my jeans were good. But I could only mess around with them for 15 minutes before I had to put them back in the box and leave. I have to see how they look in my suit. I am fairly certain they will look good. I will put them to the test physically, including a long walk on a paved trail. I know they are supposed to be stiff in the ankles for support, but I will try to really move in them. I will report back with the results.
I am not deluding myself into thinking these will look as good or move as well on the dance floor as fashionable designer boots and dress shoes. Nor do I expect them to be as comfortable for city walking as skateboarding shoes, or the featherweight under armor boots. I would be wary of anyone who reviews any product as being the best for everything.
But if I can wear them with my suit, and they are comfortable enough for long walks and out running zombies (Or people should I become a zombie myself ;)), then I will be as happy as a zombie in a FEMA camp.
