After some year as a decontamination specialist I've decided to go back to college and get a degree, i got a new job as a pharmacy clerk and now i need a new knife for work, my boss doesn't exactly like me having my CS american lawman at workand asked for something "more friendly" I've tried using a SAK but the two handed opening is a pain and slows me downand i simply hate box cutters! So i will mostly break down boxes and cut tape and plastic wrap, one handed opening is a must and lets try to keep it under 50$ please. Oh and as my boss said, a "customer friendly knife". Any ideas?

For those who want the short version

Need a >50$ knife, for working in a drugstore, one handed opening and that wont scare people.

Orange handle satin blade Ontario Rat II. ~$30.

...Or a blacked out, partially serrated Benchmade Bedlam. -Oh, wait... :D

Just a ramble...

The CS Tuff Lites would be excellent... not sure if they would be deemed customer friendly

AG has many one hand knives that could be deemed customer friendly - he just came out with a smaller hawkbill

Small fixed blade?

good luck

Spyderco Delica in green, blue or orange (in other words a brighter color)

Check out a Kershaw Double Cross. Can be had for $60 but perfect for your needs, which may be worth the extra $10. [Edit: High quality but discontinued, so price is drastically reduced.]

It looks very much like a traditional folder, but opens and closes one handed. Has thumb studs and a single liner lock for both blades. Very cool and very usable knife. 16 layer Damascus blades and stunning good looks. I love mine.

Delica is a good choice, not too big but big enough for your job. It's not a scary looking knife either.

The Benchmade Mini-grip (used) and Spyderco Delica are great choices.

Spyderco Dragonfly in orange or Dragonfly Salt in yellow. People are used to seeing brightly colored utility knives carried by store employees. Handle is big enough to hold comfortably, yet the blade is small enough to not look like a weapon, but still big enough to be useful. If you want to stick with Cold Steel the Tuff Lite Mini is available in orange. There's a number of other knives available in "safety orange". Just go to your favorite dealers' websites, search for "orange", and poke around.

Case Trapperlock or the Boker Trapperlock types -

.

I'd go thinner blade, with natural or colorful scales. Thumbstud or flipper opening method. I think they might find the Spyderhole or a wide blade too aggressive if they had a problem with the lawman.

The Mackinac from Cold Steel might be a good choice also.

+1 more for the leek. Lots of variations available, great knife and not threatening in any way

These are a few that come to mind:

-Spyderco Dragonfly or Delica.
-Cold Steel Tuff Lite or Mini Tuff Lite.
-Boker Subcom.

If a lock is not necessary take a look at the Spyderco UKPK . If a lock is a must look at the Boker Nano. I used the Nano (orange scale) at work and had some lady tell how cute my knife was and that it looked like Nemo. Both knives I suggested have a good blade profile for what you need it to do. Also I think the color of a knife can make it less threatening to a lot of non knife people.

The leek is nice but i think the assisted opening might be considered threatening. Maybe a ka bar dozier folding hunter?

Watched Orlando news last night, and robber came in and pointed his pistol at clerk's head. The clerk reached under the counter, pulled out a two-foot long machete and came out from behind the cash register and chased the scared crook right out of the store. Funny.

any small knife that suits you. what i want to say is bright orange or purple handles are babe magnets!
