I like watching Ray Mears and Les Stroud and I just started watching Dual Survival. I watched several on youtube. The hippie dude has serious knowledge about nature and Dave killed something on ever trip.

They clashed at first but I wonder how the feel about each other now that they've been working together.

Yeah I've only seen a couple episodes, but I love watching them learn from eachother. Great entertainment and information all around.

If not bud,s at least a growing respect for each other.
Although I don't think Cody will turn Dave into a Vegan.:D
I have some info from Cody including his book 98.6.

I like that he made sandals in the desert
..... Funny but iv not a fan of the tv so thats all iv seen

In the first one or two episodes their different styles clashed, but the guys surely have much respect for eachother. They also admit that in some environments they rely on their partner. Like yesterday, when Dave talked in the camera about his respect for Cody his knowledge of surviving in the desert. I like that attitude.

I will admitt....I MISS LES STROUD....!! survivor man was great!! very legit!! the latest show LES has beyond survival is very watchable!

Bear Grylls though....eh lets just say I watch it for "entertainment"

The haphazard way of running through the woods and the eat gross things even though he isn't starving is a put off....but if i learn one thing per survival show that would save my butt it was worth watching.

all the above shows have usually done that for me.

Two guys with different personalities is a more realistic and entertaining way of showing some stuff, the lone single person with the giant ego can be boring to watch.

The Odd Couple for sure but both do well on their own and sort of together, lot of knowledge and skills there.

While entertaining, I felt so many of the episodes were highly contrived. Too much emphasis on location and vistas. All the climbing stuff was just out of place in 99.9% of survival situations and they only did it to add drama. Catching food on every trip is like scoring with a good looking woman everytime you go to the bar. Doesn't happen. The episode I liked the most was the one where they were in Cody's home turf and it felt a bit more real. I also liked that they separated them out for a bit. There was definitely some good info in the show and I liked Cody's character but I just in the way everything was shot, I could not help but think of the team of cameramen all standing around behind them passing water bottles and Oh Henry's bars back in forth.

I liked survivorman quite a bit more because there was a sense of honesty about it and Les' emotions. You actually did see when he started running out of energy from not eating and the times when he was fearful felt genuine. I see why Les gave up the model though. Gotta be hard on the body to do that as much as he did.

I got to agree with most of this.
I can't help but think that the turkey he got was tethered down somehow, based on the amount of noise that they made, and the numerous times they seem to "stumble" upon live animals. Bear Grylls team definitely set him up with rabbits and whatnot, and Dual Survival does have some of the cheese I associate with Bear. Les Stroud will always have way more street cred in my book.
That being said, I still think its a pretty great show, and I found myself surprised at how much I like Cody and how often I agree with him more than Dave. Barefoot or not, that guy does have some skills.
And the first few times I watched the show and heard Dave's accent, and the amount of times he used the term "brother", I was certain he had to be from Southern Ohio... sure enough! Got to support my Ohio folks!

Cody can keep the no shoes part, but I really like the show. A lot of good info from both guys. Dave does seem like a good guy to keep around if you don't like being hungry.

I miss Les too,

and Jeff, you don't wander through the woods biting heads off of snakes like Bear?

Anyway, from what I've seen from dual survival I like. But no shoes? I understand why he doesn't wear them, but really? I love walking around barefoot, but still.

i think surviviorman is the worst show of the so far mentioned ones... i get tired of him whining about carring the cameras all the time... and almost starving all the time... i did like the one though where he made a heavy duty log shelter then built a fire in the doorway and set the shelter on fire... i also like the one where he swam out to the bottom of a lake in freezing conditions to gather some bull kelp roots and then couldnt eat them...

FYI, they're all contrived scenarios! It's TV!!!!!

That said, I found them all interesting in their own ways. BTW, Cody's books are bot outstanding. Les' will be soon on my reading list.

I've read both Les's "Survive" and Cody's "98.6." Both great books - no frills, the basics, and some great tips on survival kits. At first, I didn't care for "Dual Survival." The two of them arguing got old fast. But as the season progressed, you did see how they both respected each other's knowledge and experience, like when Dave refers to Cody as the "fire expert" and Cody acknowledging Dave's hunting skills. It's a good show, showing two very different survival points of view. Any word on when the new season starts?

I often find the previews of Discovery Channel shows to "hype" up the situations in an episode. I get that it's TV, and produced by people that want to sensationalize every show. If they were more "real" maybe they wouldn't be as exciting. Les was/is the best. He had more control over the show, and no one else to compare to.
Too many reality shows are based on drama and arguments, negative emotions, and fighting.
I just wish the approach of the producers/editors would change their approach and focus. Everytime Cody is in a segment, there's some Native American flute music in the background. Does he need it? Is that what he listens to?
I think of Cody as an authentic human. I mean to say that he is original, he has made his own way.
Reality TV cannot categorize someone like Cody. There is no easy box to put him into, and yet he is a "Native hippie" or something to the producers of Dual Survival. In reality, he is neither.
