They were in New Zeeland, for those that just watched it. I was really really impressed by both Cody and Dave. Dave's rope work was great, and his ability to make a makeshift pack out of inner strands of climbing rope was awesome.

Cody catching that eel on natural cordage was amazing as well.

I like that show and find myself learning some things.

Must admit I am gaining respect for Cody. DANG he is one grizzly bear of a man!! Good thing he is so easy going!!

Yeah Doc, I saw him with his shirt off - or short sleeves and was like - WOAH - I would not want him to get mad at me.

Dave really impressed me tonight - he was not as impressive on his Youtube - but he knows his stuff.

I'm enjoying the series so far. Both of the guys seem willing to step outside their comfort zones and trust each other's expertise.

I wouldn't repel into that mountain stream nor waded across the river though liked the natural fiber rope and eel action. Granted the area was probably scouted ahead of time but in the real world someone wouldn’t have a clue as to the terrain in that narrow stream gully. You could easily get stuck into a spot in which there is no way up or down and the odds of being found would be greatly reduced. Also the risk of flash flood is just too great. There is just no place to go in a gully.

If they put this series out on DVD, I would love to see more footage of the skills that inevitably have to get edited out.

I'm liking the show so far. I know this because a one hour show feels too short and abridged to me.

I think the disagreement about whether to cook the eel was a bit scripted to emphasize the ramifications that timing carries in a survival situation.

I watched it, and learned a few new things from it. Also, the bit about the eel.. I would have cooked it, even if it did take time away. But they knew where they were headed, most likely.

Its seems to me that Dave in particular knows he not in a real emergency survival situation, so he wants to take the time to make things more enjoyable, including making the food more palatable by cooking it. I think a pretty good case could be made that if you have a clear escape direction in mind that it isn't ever worth the time and energy to chase food (in a scenario like week two). In such a circumstance, with readily available water, you should either be moving or resting (to include shelter & fire).

The first week scenario, in which they were really only in a position to wait for rescue is a different story. The psychological benefits of food would be worth the effort to chase after food.

I think the hunting and fishing is included more to showcase Dave and Cody's skills than because it is a survival necessity in these cases.

I enjoyed this one more then the first, several great skills like the cordage, the snow anchor for rappeling, making the net, I had no idea that a sock could used as a hook for eel. And can't forget to mention the mora #1 Cody was wearing and using!

Me too. I'd definitely buy it for bonus footage. I'm a big Cody fan and have recently gotten unto Daves YouTube videos.

I must say... this show has the best elements of Stroud's and Bear's shows: the pace is good and yet not crazy like Bear and just as informative as Les's without the boredom.

I really like when they get along and teach each other something and work together, I respect and know dave could out survive me anyday but I really like cody's slow thought out way and non risky aproach. heights scare me to death saftey gear or no safety gear lol

I like the series alot. Looking forward to seeing the rest, and I really do like the "coming from two different mindset" scenario. Good stuff.

I've only seen the videos available of the shipwreck episode on youtube, and the clips from the others on the Discovery site, but I really like both of these guys.
Along with his incredible knowledge, Cody exemplifies what I think is the #1 rule of survival in practically any situation, which is to keep your head, and not make your situation worse.
I like Canterbury's attitude, too, which is almost tied for #1 for me, being aggressive and proactive, and making something happen for you, instead of waiting for something to happen to you.
They're quite the combination when you put them together.
