Dual Survivor tonight...

I want to give the benefit of the doubt to the second episode - what if that was the most logical way down the glacier / mountain? The only thing I wish I would have seen more of is how to tie some of the knots and harnesses Dave was trying. I don't think, just because there was quite a bit of repelling, that it was staged or an attempt to be Bear.

I think the show would have been better casting Doc and Payette.

+1 without a doubt.

Although it seems Payette REALLY loves to hear himself talk ;) not sure how Doc would be able to deal with that :D.

I am inspired to learn more by this show. It's entertainment, but it is good entertainment while fostering an interest in outdoor skills and self preservation. I think it's expecting a little too much from shows like this to be pure outdoor education. It's like parents expecting schools/teachers to raise their kids just because they spend time there/with them.

Yeah, but he said both, as if there were two. I've watched everything I could find from the show on youtube and discovery. Is there really another one available?

I definitely am not seeing an attempt to be Bear here. If it was Bear, he would have done a swan dive off the top of the first waterfall, and then slid down the waterfall that they rappelled, with no gear, and stripped naked beforehand to make sure his clothes didn't get wet.

In the mountains, rappelling can be the safest way to get down, and it gave them a chance to demonstrate various safety issues that show up in canyoning, such as making sure you face outward when you rappel a waterfall, and pointing out how dangerous it can be if you run out of rope and have to drop into a pool of unknown depth.

The ropework was done while pointing out that it was risky, and done in the least risky way possible. Yeah, there might have been a less dangerous way to get down the mountain, but they used it to demonstrate a knowledge with ropes, and even had Cody talking about how he wanted to slow down and be careful at every step. If it was Bear, he would have been running down the canyon screaming WHOOOOOOO the whole way. Totally different atmosphere and presentation.
