Hey folks,

I bought this knife because...... well I simply love it!

J A Henckels - now if you anything about knives, you just know that this name - especially in the earlier years made phenomenal Knives - almost unmatched in quality and build.
Well, I saw this knife up for sale, and as we know Henckels stopped building Folders - now was it the 60's or 70's - I think the later....

Anyhooo, this knife I bought because.....

1, I kinda love the Older Wooden handled Soddy -this being a lovely untouched version, I had to have it.
2, The STAMPING of Henckels drives me to by the knife every time - i just dont come across them much - I dont go shopping on E-Bay as I would not be married anymore nor would I own anything - but I tell ya -I would have some nice knives!!! :o

Ok.... When I pop into Carls Lounge, I often shed a wee tear when reading about the lovely friends that have a couple of more legs than us, and at most times the better principles than most of us - Loyalty - defend the one you love with your life, and yes you guessed it, I am talking about our beautiful friends and mates we call Dogs.

One very cool J A Henckels Soddy as a trade for those who would like to share a photo of their furry friends - especially for the ones who have passed, as I believe thet somewhere know that we are reminiscing over them.

I have had the great fortune of having Luke my Rottie for 14 & 1/2 years, Murphy my lovely wee boy whom I had to say goodbye at 2 & 1/2 years because of Cancer, and now blessed with my lovely wee girl Izzy.

lol -I have tears now because of Murphy - Oh man....so c'mon share a very short Tail ( pun intended ) of your mate - but we want a photo/picture of your lovely friend - heres the knife.
i really dont want to loose this knife - I actually am extremely happy, but I am once again fortunate enough to be gifted a lovely knife/knives, so I gotta pass it on.
Not too sad guys -a photo and a quirky statement of your best mate( doesnt have to be a Doggie - Cat - Feathered Friend, Lizard etc....)

The winners prize...

Wow - check out this lovely knife everyone!!

I will run this for possibly a couple of weeks, to my friends here - thanks you so much for your support, to the mods - Frank and Gary guys a relentless job that you certainly get no thanks for - but thank you ( until next time :D )

Lets try and add a wee bit of knife content too guys to keep it in Traditionals!

All the best everyone on the Porch...

Another shot of my beautiful boy...

My only photo of Murphy -murph as we all called this little beautiful wee boy, I again wish so so much to spend more time with my lovely wee boy - another time I hope...my only photo of him, my computer friend lost ALL my photos of Murphy - to this day I am very very bitter about this, I hate the fact after 11 year I am forgetting the fine features of his lovely cute face....man...if you could get a dog to bring a smell into the house- this guy was it lol..

Only picture ive got.
My cat. Her name was dog. I got her when i was 5 and she was already 2. She died when i was 21. Best friend i ever had and i believe that i ever will. Lived up to her name too. Came every time i called and even took commands(sit, stay, lay down) she still comes on adventures with me in my dreams sometimes. I like to think shes hangin around, waiting for me so we can have our last big adventure together.

Nice one Duncan.
Gotta go digging for an old photo now.
Hope you will be relaxing in proper fashion tomorrow. No 2 up!
cheers.

At center stage are two boys I miss a lot. The muddy one in front is Tusker, a seven-year-old red merle Aussie. A very smart, active dog; a third of an acre didn't give him enough room to run, and a six-foot chain link fence couldn't contain him. He now has the run of a 40-acre farm, with three other dogs, plus horses, mules, llamas geese and turkeys, all of whom need to be herded.

The white one is Mr. Chauncey Gardner, a boxer/lab mutt that I picked out of a litter of seven some fifteen years ago. Like his namesake, he was a little dim, but profound. He was my companion for many adventures and the dean of my unruly household of dogs, until old age overtook him in February.

Here, the boys are enjoying an outing at my stepdaughter's boarding kennel.

That is a lovely knife, and a very generous GAW. Please count me in.

Odin or "Odog". Starting to show his age, but still with me. Cataracts in both eyes and blew his knee out a week and a half ago.

Great comp,thanks
This is daisy my three year old patterdale, mad as a box of frogs but great fun to have around.

Duncan, you are generous almost to a fault my friend. Not an entry please, I have been the recipient of your generosity many, many times :)

A dog was the only thing I ever asked my father for in my whole life. Needless to say, he wouldn't allow me to have one :(

This took quite a bit of finding, but here's me aged 20 with my then girlfriend's dog Tyke. The photo is taken almost exactly on the spot of one of the old grinding hulls on the River Porter.

Duncan, PLEASE, not an entry, as I've received too much kindness from you in the past. But I had to introduce you all to Giada Girl (G.G. for short), otherwise known as Giada the Wonder Dog, our Maltese. Simply put, she is the smartest, sweetest, cutest, best and most wonderful dog that ever lived. Everyone who comes in contact with her says the same. Here she is during the Christmas holidays enjoying a rest in her own easy chair in front of the fireplace. No dog ever deserved it more. She is a once in a lifetime gem.

Here is G.G. with a bandana, doing one of her many tricks.

"What ya think, not bad, eh?! Where's my treat?"

As G.G. is getting up in years, we decided to add another little white dog to the family, and got this Coton de Tulear from Brett Anderson, aka KBA here on BFC. My wife named him Kona Kea (or K.K.), following her love of all things Hawaiian. Here he is admiring his own beautiful self in the mirror of our Lladro cabinet.

This is Gizmo. She passed in October 2015 and our home hasn't been the same since. To some people animals are just animals, to us they are family. Our Gizmo was 18 when she passed.

Such a generous GAW, Duncan.

This here is Kiera, believed to be a Plot Hound/Black Mouth Cur mix. We believe is 5yrs. Suppose to weigh in at 50# or so but was 35# at time of rescue after 2 litters.

Adopted her when her weight was back to normal. About 2.5 mos after adopting her, she got into the Sago Palm, ate some starchy pulp, which is poisonous. Off to the hospital we go for a NICE medical bill. 😥😥

Now weighing over 60#, working to get it down a bit. Kiera trned out to be the most loyal and loving dog I have ever had. True companion that wants to go everywhere and do everything with me. And she goes totally nuts when she's sees squirrels though.

And this is a ZT09 bayonet. An impulse buy to "bond" with my son, who's into tactical knives. Wasn't impresses 😥 Other than that, he's a good kid.

Duncan, this is not an entry but thank you for giving me this venue to pay tribute to a couple great friends.

I got Breeze when she was 49 days old and I had the privilege of being her human for almost 17 years. During that time she taught me more than I taught her. She could hear a shotgun shell dropping into a flannel shirt pocket from 50 feet away and was always ready to go, wherever. Hunting, fishing, canoeing even swimming. Yes swimming. I'd snorkel for hours and she'd stay right by my side. Needless to say she was my best friend and I miss her even today.

This is me with a Victorinox Huntsman in my RFP and my "Cracker Jack" bird dog Breeze at my side. (1983)

This is Gus, a busy-as-they-come Border Collie. He passed away just a couple weeks ago so I am unable to say much more about him at this time. He was greatly loved and much missed.

I was never allowed to have a dog as a child, and I was always jealous of friends who had dogs growing up. Now that I'm married with my own house, it was time to finally get a four-legged companion.

This is my boy, Flanagan. He badly needs a hair cut, but he's happy all the same. He makes me feel like an 8 year old boy everyday. Flanagan is 4-5 years old and an interesting looking mix. We rescued him from a local shelter and have never really bothered to figure out what he is a mix of. He looks like a border collie/corgy mix to me, and being that he's right around 30 pounds makes him the perfect size for our relatively small backyard (5000 sqft). He loves to chase the squirrels and lizards in our yard.

I'm terrified of the day that I'll lose him, but I'm determined to give him one hell of a life while he's here.

Thanks for the opportunity, and I just know that I'll love reading all of the entries, even if I'll need to do so with a box of Kleenex.

Edit to add knife content:

My boy is active, which makes in-focus cell phone photos impossible, especially in lower light. He was very interested in my freshly patina'd Opinel #8!

Thank you for the most generous give away. I do love my dogs as they are family.
I've got two dogs currently, wish I could have more but in conjunction with a two and five year old it's like having four kids. Liberty is my nine year old American Bulldog. I got her at nine weeks old when I lived on the east coast and she's been a great dog. My wife refers to her as "nanny Libby" as she follows the kids around and constantly let's us know when they're causing trouble. Our newest addition, well almost two years new is my Vizsla puppy Bull Moose. He is a goofy pup but well behaved and lives up to the vizsla reputation as the " Velcro dog". He's got all your typical bird dog tendencies including pointing at and than catching flies. He loves dogs and people and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Just an outstanding family dog. Having dogs is a big responsibility and expense but I couldn't imagine what it'd be like without them.

Libby, she loves to roll in the dirt.

The Moose,

The #15 & #54 come the closest to the dogs colors in my humble collection-

We always had dogs growing up, but the first dog I had on my own was Molly. I got her as a rescue of sorts (she had a family, people my mom knew through work, but they didn't take care of her and decided to give her up, so I took her). She was about 3 years old when I got her, but after a few weeks it was like I'd had her since she was a puppy. She was a great dog. This photo is from her later years (all of her fur was a darker cinnamon color when she was young, but as she got older her face and paws turned white). We lost her about 5 years ago, just before we moved out to Arizona.

After we sort of got settled our here in the desert and bought our house a few years back, we decided it was time to get another dog. After Molly, the only kind of dog that I wanted was another Lab. This is Maggie, not long after we brought her home:

And here's a more recent photo, taken after one of her favorite activities, chasing tennis balls in the pool.

She's a great dog, very sweet and incredibly smart. For a long time I was hesitant, after losing Molly, to get another dog. I didn't want to feel like I was replacing her. But it really does help the healing process, and I'm very happy now that we have Maggie.

This is my best friend buttercup, she's a 9yr old blue nose pit bull that my aunt and uncle got us in '07 after my first pit bull died ( she had a heat stroke, and when it was her time she waited for to tell her it was OK to let go ) anyway buttercup is the friendliest dog you'll ever meet and absolutely loves people. I'm so glad that they took the long trip to end up rescuing her for us as a surprise.
My aunt was afraid of pit bulls but changed her mind the second she met buttercup, luckily we couldn't say no as we instantly fell in love with her.
My aunt was almost gonna keep her.
Anyway she's the best friend anyone could ever ask for, she literally follows me everywhere and hates to be left alone. She also hates it when you pet her and walk away, so she'll end up following you.
She has a big bark which makes here a great home protector, but anyone who was dumb enough to break I to a house with a barking pit bull would just get licked to death
