Duncan's payback - give away time lets go!!!! WINNER CHOSEN.

Wow, I have one Henckles pen knife, with mother of pearl handle and BEAUTIFUL F&F. They sure are nice! I haven't ever had a dog, but thank you for this GAW!
Not an entry.

Duncan, What a fun idea! I've previously benefited from your generosity but I'd like to contribute without entering the contest. I'm enjoying everyone's photos. Here's the last photo that I have of my first dog. I got her when she was around 1 year old. I don't have the early photos scanned. She's quite old in the photo shown below. They say bad things happen in threes and my dog, my father, and my best friend from high school died within several weeks. It hit me hard. But I have a lot of good memories.

I now have these two beautiful dogs.

I found the big one on Petfinder and drove across several state lines to get her. She was feral and scheduled for euthanasia. She had broken teeth, infections in both eyes and both ears and ticks everywhere. Here's the poor girl the way that I found her.

Here she is enjoying her new life...

...few more photos...

Knife content... tracking down Case/Bose collaboration knives... ;)

Well done. Rescuing pets in distress, particularly dogs, is one of our highest callings.

Thanks for the GAW. I don't have a dog but we have a cat named Tigger that we got from a rescue shelter. Her tail had been broken and points to her left side. We were told we could have it removed but elected not to. She was very nervous when we first brought her home and stayed hidden the first 3 or 4 weeks. She also was petrified at loud noise and would run away and stay hidden for several hours. These days she thinks we are her pets and this is her house that she just lets us lives in. She is a wonderful cat and I have thought many times if I knew who had abused her I would try my best to abuse them because she is no longer a pet but a member of our family. Sorry got the pets on my mind and forgot here are some Barlows to go with the cat.

Here's my pup "Ruger". He just turned 8 years old last week and he's my best bud. Also pictured is my wife's dog Lola... She's not so bad either. My daughters love climbing on both of them and I occasionally catch them riding Ruger like a horse. He loves them right back!

And just to keep some knives in the mix, here are a couple that I keep in the pocket when we go camping or hunting. An old A Field and Co ebony folder and the trusty Schrade Old Timer Sharpfinger. Utilitarian and ready to do work and get dirty just like the GSD!

My cat thumper has a tail that points to the left as well ( sadly she has to live with her siblings at my moms because my dog hates cats )
Her whole litter except for a runt that didn't make it plus another that was adopted all had Bob tails. We're Not sure what happened, but here tail just went crooked at some point when she started getting active.
I wish I had a picture, because she looks like a cross between a bobcat and a tabby with a faint calico markings and is just so cute.
I named her thumper because she used to sorta run hop like a rabbit.
We weren't gonna keep her, but she attached herself to me and started following me everywhere.
( we gave up her mom because she kept having kittens and we couldn't afford to get her fixed, she only came home when she was hungry anyway so it wasn't really a difficult decision )

Your cat is cute too, does she lime to catch birds.
One time my thumper brought a live bird into the house.

What a terrific GAW Duncan. I know your sincere love of dogs my friend. Many of has been so blessed with a companion that has truly enriched our lives and taught us how to be better human beings. Thank you for the chance my friend. I like to stress "not an entry" but I know how hour kindness blinds or deafens you to hear such a thing:D

I lost my boy February 24th and Nanc gifted me the time to spend the last two days by his side. At the end Buddy saw Nanc and I by his side as he passed, not only was it the greatest honor and privilege to be his pal but to also be there when he left us. I vowed to never leave his side as he NEVER left mine:cool:

Duncan, not an entry as I already benefited of a prize this month, but you had a top idea! Seeing people and their pets says a lot about themselves. Lots of great pictures too.
Since before WWII the family dogs were briard shepherds, but until now I have been unable to find a picture except this very bad one.
Maraud.jpg

Since I am back in town I just had a cat, Duna, aka Doudou. Surely one of the coolest cats ever and always positively minded. She passed 2 years ago and I am sadly missing her, sometime I think she's behind me watching my gestures. As for most of us she was a full family member.

For the moment I don't want another, but I am enjoying cat sitting those of my daughter. Here I am during a very contested nap competition! The black & white fellow has only 3 legs working, my daughter rescued him in the middle of a forrest road where bastards had thrown him from a car in full winter. The grey Chartreux decided one day it was a good home and stayed!

Duncan Mate, not an entry cos I've already won one of your GAWs and it's eternally treasured. But it's a fine idea to show off some of our animal mates here:cool:

People often talk about 'dog-person' or 'cat-person' some people are both, but I actually suspect the animals choose us! Dogs have never been interested in me or shown liking for me so I just have to accept that one, they know. Cats on the other hand, even timid or stand offish ones have always been drawn to me, so they choose me. Only the other day I stopped the car in a small village to look at a cat and he jumped down from a wall and got in the car with me, I had to return him as he was clearly well fed and looked after.

I regret to say, that in this country it is not at all uncommon for people to have a Summer Cat, that is chosen as a short term companion or toy for the kids in summertime then cast off and left to their own devices in the wild. It's horribly cruel as the winter in Finland is harsh and tame cats who are not feral have little chance of survival unscathed (they can lose ears or tails in -30c) I'm outraged by such selfishness. End of last summer a tiny young cat turned up at the summer house (I'd just seen a huge 1m black snake in the grass by the road..) she came running up the dirt road towards me, completely bold and very happy to see somebody. Very thin and hungry but affectionate, she has now become a cat who travels between town & country and is happy in both places. When she first came into the house, never nervous, she ate hugely of everything she could get, really grateful for the food and company. She had fleas and a bad case of worms to sort out, later on we had her neutered when she came into heat. She will follow you on long walks like a dog does and is very dominant in the house, hating being left alone. :D Pipp is now healthy and happy, how somebody could throw her out is enraging, but I feel lucky!

Good luck to all who enter and to all who help our animal friends and comrades:thumbup:

Thanks, Will

These are my two girls. Growing up I had two dogs for a very short time. My dad was allergic and had asthma so it never worked out. Well all grown up lol with my own house, wife, twins on the way, and our two dogs. Ziva who is a mix and and attached to my wife at the hip. Super sweet dog but a nervous nelly for sure. Then there is my big baby jewels who's a pit/pit mix not sure. She is a sweet heart loves to cuddle and sometimes is like a bull in a china shop but she is my best buddy. Both were rescued from the humane society ziva as a puppy Jewels was around 1 year they think when we got her.

I don't have a pic handy to load, so this is not an entry until I can find one.

My boy Remington, who will be 13 this fall, is about as crazy as you can get. He is highly intelligent, I used to call him the Terminator when he was younger, not an ounce of fat on him back then. I just recently noticed my boy got old, after my 9 year old had to be put down for cancer in February. My old timer hasn't slowed down though. He's packed on the weight, I can't say anything I'm big as a house. I've been walking him, but he's not a dog on a mission like my late Dock was. My Remington zigs and zags down the road, like a sailboat tacking up the river.

He loves the ladies. He is not that fond of any other men, like my sisters significant others. My brother in law stayed at my parents house before he married my sister, and my Remington made sure he guarded the bacon my father was making, and made sure my brother in law kept passing him the bacon. My Remington would growl at him to give him more bacon!

Old Remington got into a thorn bush when he was younger, slicing his eyeballs, he hasn't had the greatest vision. He is also extremely prone to separation anxiety. So, he might not recognize someone that's he's been comfortable with for a long time. He loves his women, and would sit between my sisters dates when they were watching tv. No one had to pay attention to them because Remington was doing it for us. The old arm around the girl trick didn't work and couldn't work because Remington was right there between them.

Remington even did that to my little brother and his girlfriend when they were first dating, it was then she knew she was part of the family. He didn't let my brother do the arm trick, and snuggled with his girlfriend. He thinks he's Don Juan.

We have a cockatoo, her name is Baby, sometimes when she goes from talking to just squawking, Remington will sing to her, just a low howling moan, but he will sing to her. I think he's saying the same everyone at home is, shut up bird!

Remington is insane, which seems to be par for the course for labs. His separation anxiety kicked in when he was younger. The family was at the pool, and he was on the deck with someone gathering food for dinner, which was to be eaten outside. Remington saw way too much fun being had, and decided to launch himself off the deck, which is 16 ft off the ground, and hit the ground running like a doctor! I almost had a heart attack, I though that he hurt himself. He just wanted to be with the party.

My boy is insane, and I could tell tons of stories. I'm glad he's made it this long. My Beau died last year of old age, he was 16, my Dock had to be put down this February because of a tumor, meds didn't work anymore. Old Remington and my Mack, a three year old baby Huey, another lab, are the only things I am beholden to in this world.

I have not had a pup since I was a kid. We finally purchased the home we are in (spurred by the inability to get a pet until we owned it).

This pup, Bernard, is kind of a rescue. He is papered Basset hound. Purchased by a family member who was not quite up to it.

So we have known him since he was a tiny pup.

Here is a stick he was trying to bring into the house (maybe for me to whittle).

Took him two tries t get it in.

I think he wanted me to carve it with this.

Awesome photos of just beautiful friends, Paul I was hoping you would post a photo of beautiful little Buddy- SUCH a cute face.

Its so nice to see photos of rescue dogs - and then to see them in such beautiful condition, Izzy and Murph were rescued, at times the damage never leaves them entirely - I laugh with Izzy, trying to get her to lie down so I can look at her tummy for skin etc....she fights it so much as she feels so insecure being asked to lie down! You can feel her body so tense - but as I softly tell her how lovely she is, you feel her body slowly (and very slowly mind you ) relax lol.

Thank you everyone for showing us your precious friends.

thanks for the generosity and best of luck to all who enter.

Great giveaway, and I would like to be a candidate to win the Henckels!

Here's our Zoey, who's about 10 years old. She's a shelter dog we adopted when our then-9-year-old daughter was begging for a puppy.

Zoey is 25% King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, 25% Welsh Terrier, 25% Manchester Terrier, and 25% who knows what else. We actually did a DNA test on her.

This photo was taken at the vet recently, which is why she's in freakout mode.
