Durability of the Res-C handles?

View attachment 775239
This scrapper 5 has been to hell and back it took a heavy beating for years. The first time the res-c mudder handle was damaged was from me throwing it and then throwing another knife that stuck in the handle, i was able to use a lighter to melt the rubber and mash it back together with very little noticeable damage. I managed to beat the sh@# out of it daily using it as a all purpose tool with little effect other than some scratches and nicks in the res-c until the day it fell in a burn pile. I was chopping some branches off a tree in the rain and it slipped out of my hand and flew right into the bonfire deep in the coals. Burned 3 fingers pretty bad trying to get it out before grabbing a shovel to save my hand. At first I was devastated it was covered in charcoal and debris but after cleaning it up, cutting off melted chunks and remolding it a little bit it is back in action with character.
To answer your question about its durability, it is pretty tough in my experience. Not likely that you will damage it much with normal use and cuts in it are easily repaired with a lighter to soften and reform the rubber.

Whaaaaaaat?!?!? And erase the memories, RUIN the campfire conversation starter and lower the value of a family heirloom??? Whyyyy That'd be like having someone re-finish Grandad's pre-1900 Winchester 94 (unless you're talking Doug Turnbull, then I get it).:D:D:D

Thanks man you guys are awesome I may send it in but as stump buster said I am kinda attached to it as is. I have another scrapper 5 that is still unused. I will have to think about it, but I truly appreciate your offer.

I like the part where he is breaking up the concrete block with the knife tip by hitting the back of the Res C handle with a weighted hammer. Around the 7:55 minute mark on the video. This is after he was chopping the concrete blocks with the Basic Knife. In the next video he is cutting through steel with the Basic knife. It's always fun to see the look on someone's face the first time they see this video.

It is bery, very durable stuff. Much more so than other "rubber" handled knoves I've had. Some at comparable prices! No comparison, what so ever. After significant use for years I never had an to wiggle, wear, or movement on a basic 11.

I have had many Res-C handled knives and they are very comfortable and durable. Except for very high heat, like in Hades or a campfire, I haven't found a way to hurt mine. I'm sure a Sharknato could damage it but the odds are forever in your favor.
