An easy way to dress up a blade and make a nice transition into the guard in under an hour.

Not bad for an old Geezer....... The body maybe going downhill but the mind is as sharp as ever.........

Pretty neat. Is that brass? Do you solder it to the knife also?

It's silver.

It'll be a good fiction fit with some JB Weld to seal it all up… like the guard. The small shoulders on the blade and the guard will lock it in place.

It's just a simplified version of this one without the inner sheet piece.

I get it, nice and simple and looks great, but what are the small pins for? You filed them off, so I'm a little lost.

I think you mean the silver solder granules. I like using solder spheres on certain types of seams. They're easier to control on some stuff, than wire or sheet pieces. I solder with those granules a lot.

All I do is put some flux on a tiny piece of solder and heat it with a torch. When it melts it pulls up into a sphere.

Man, I have got to work on my solder skills.... that's it.... I'm flying out to Tai's place. Put the beer in the fridge, brother.... I'll set up camp out in the desert somewhere.

That would be cool Rick. I think you'd really like the landscape down here. :)

Nice. I'm just getting interested in doing some hidden tang/guard knives and this showed me the element that always seemed missing in regular setups. I knew certain guard assemblies looked nicer and more finished, but hadn't pinned down why, the transition was the reason. Definitely tagging this for future reference as I put together a set of guides and tips for this kind of work.

Thanks for another great technique, Tai.

No prob. Blade collars are fun. :)

Go in April, that is when the Gila Monsters are moving. Nature's most awesome beast!

If you catch the Gila monsters when they are first thawing out, they move real slow and you can just pick them up and pet them. They really aren't "monsters", forked tongue or not. Just another one of God's creations.
