Easy to buy drop knife

So next week I'm flying into a big city and need to help my dad clear out a couple of storage units. I expect I may need to cut up/open boxes, cut cord, and other normal packing/shipping types of knife uses. However, I'll just be visiting the city for a few days and I won't be checking any bags. With the current fear of knifes by the TSA and me not wanting to pay for checking any bags, bringing any type of reasonable knife is out. (As an aside, I remember being able to fly with my all steel Spyderco Police in my pocket with no issues...)

So, I need suggestions for an easy to purchase and easy to abandon knife for the trip. I figure I could easily enough get to a Walmart or Home Depot type of place to pick up something. Since I'll be flying back out in a few days, I don't want to get something I'll be sad about dropping.

Am I doomed to have to get some horrid box cutter? Are there any tolerable 'disposable' knives I could acquire for the task?

Thanks

After leaving the airport stop at the closest big box store.

Buy the SAK of your choice and call it good. Gift it to someone when you leave, or mail it back to yourself

Buy a Stanley box opener they cost couple bucks get few blades you're good to go
Or mail a knife to his address for yourself

I'd just buy a box cutter. That way I wouldn't have to worry about sharpening it, how much time I would have to spend sharpening it, and bring sharpening equipment with me.

Go to a semi classy restaurant and order a steak... Steal the steak knife. Make a cardboard and duct tape sheath.

^ He hahaha.

I pilfered a couple of Black Angus steak knives back in the day. Had I known steak knives would become a thing, I would've drawered them instead of use them. Think I may still have them.

Speaking of box cutter, I also recently found one of ole trusty box cutters and it's a Stanley. Didn't really know back then, it was like high school. The Stanley is crazy solid, like over built. I can pry with the thin razor like blade and it won't break. It's stronger than most knives.. and sharp.

Another option to consider is to buy something decent when you get there and ship it back to yourself before you leave.

I usually mail myself a package to my hotel prior to arriving. Then I mail it back to myself.
Never had a problem.

Good bet is to hit up a Target store. They can be found in just about any medium-size town and they usually have several SAK models for under $20.

Somebody already suggested Home Depot. I recently picked up one of these Klein "Electrician's Pocket Knife" models and it's really quite nice for $19. Liner lock, pocket clip, surprisingly sharp 440A stainless, tight build:

Another option is any old truck stop. They usually sell a large variety of lockback folders, although usually crappy ones.

Buy a tap knife cutter and toss it on your way out. Only be out about a dollar and works great for cutting boxes.

I would just ship a knife to where ever you are staying and then ship it back to you when you're done.

Get one of those $3.87 Ozark Trail knives. They get decent reviews anyway and will handle boxes fine :)

I bought a few of them the last time i was on vacation, there's a few different styles.
this one is the smallest, a little bigger than a Kershaw Leek

I think I would probably go with the box cutter/utility knife personally. I hate to leave something like a knife behind due to travel restrictions.

Or go to a grocery store and buy some steak knives or paring knives. Cheap. Buy a couple extra in case it gets dull, and if you dont use it, give them to your dad.

Or go to the hardware store and buy a box cutter.

Its not that complicated.

I would grab the $4 knife from Wal-Mart. They're actually pretty decent, especially for $4.
