Recommendation? Easy to close blade for bartender girlfriend

Why not a small fixed blade like the Braford Guardian 3, small enough to fit in a pocket. Pull the sheath and knife out, take the knife out of the sheath, use it and put it away. No need to worry about breaking nails or closing a locked blade.
You're welcome

Folding, retracting utility knife. It ain’t sexy, but if she is mostly cutting boxes, it would be my choice.

Mini griptilian, as several people already suggested. Axis lock is among the easiest for closing the blade, if not THE easiest. Buy a gold class mini grip to please the lady.

LMAO someone suggested a fixed blade. How it look like in/on a pair of yoga pants.:D

I think that some small compression lock , axis lock or slip joint can be a good pick

At Spyderco for a compression lock I second the rhino and lil

At BM for the compression lock either a mini grip or a Bugout are fine even if the Bugout may me a big blade for the task

For slip joint have a look at the trm atlas

I think she should just pick something she likes and practice using it. If I can use a back lock Spyderco Salt with numb hands in the Arkansas River she can certainly learn to use a Dragonfly with beery hands. Haha. The other option is to get her an auto/assisted and beer up the mechanism and have a lack luster if not completely gunked intricately mechanized knife. First sentence ditto.

If she hates it your only out like 12 bucks.

I also think a small fixed blade would be totally different. Pick up a Childress lime cutter, saw one for sale in the exchange, maybe sold by now, but can contact him. Do not know how the 440c blade would handle all the boxes though.

One other thought, I like the LT Wright Patriot in D2.

I’d suggest a Spyderco with a compression lock such as a Para3 or Mantra3.

My boy tends bar in a fairly high pressure environment. He has tried a lot of knives. When I gave him a Mini Grip, it quickly worked its way to the top of the heap. It has since been supplanted by the bugout I gave him last year.

He is completely unsentimental about his knives, and only cares about how they work for him.

Mini Grip sounds like it would work well. My favorite used to be the 556 drop point, but the 555 sheepsfoot with the "Spidy" hole has stolen my heart.

Ergonomics and ease of us are one thing but ease of use will decline fast with a dull blade. Cutting boxes takes a toll on knife edges. Unless she is into maintaining her edge, the dull blade happens pretty soon and then she is hacking at boxes rather than slicing them. A knife with replaceable razor blades is very practical, if not sexy.

And - in the "for what it's worth dept." I used a Delica for a while as a box opener (lots of cardboard involved when installing manufactured cabinets) and the Delica was my least favorite. Way too light weight - even flimsy feeling. Just sayin'. YMMV.

It's already been mentioned, but I was also going to say Bugout. Super slim and light, and mine are some of the easiest one-handed operating knives I've owned.

I'm inclined to go with the bugout. More budget friendly option could be the crkt tighe tac 2. Flipper, thumb stud, and button lock.

One thing folks need to remember is that many lady bartenders wear yoga pants (some men too maybe). There is no where to put stuff but the waistband. For this reason the knife will need to be slim and light.

Tempted to give this to my bartender friend.

Did you read the op's question? This is a recommendation for his girlfriend and it needs to be a knife.

you had the right idea, but it seems like you just need a larger one, the perfect solution imho is the dragonfly2

the wharn should be the best box cutter period

Read the first post, no lock backs otherwise I would have suggested several, including the df2.
