We (my Dad and I) ordered a Kershaw JYD last week from White Mountain Knives here in the states through eBay.
It's my Dad's account and I just use it to sell and buy once in awhile and I was surprised when he told me the Kershaw had vanished from his bought folder.
Turns out WMK was offering international sales and eBay banned them last Thursday, so eBay removed all listings and even the sold ones from buyers folders.
We got the knife but now there's no way to leave any feedback on either end.
Just thought I'd share this new development, from eBay.

That's interesting, and worrying.

I had noticed Whitemountainknives offering some nice stuff with free shipping to anywhere in the world. I did contemplate buying but didn't at the moment. I checked again in a few days and now shipping was to United States alone.

I just checked, they are still selling so not pulled completely. Wonder what new form of eBay madness this might be.

I have had several auctions ended. Knives have to be sold in country now because the UK does not like them.
Why is the UK setting US policy?:thumbdn:

It's eBay that is not allowing international sales. The USA hasn't stopped them, you can still ship internationally just not through eBay sales any longer.
I would guess it's because some "illegal knives" were recently purchased through eBay by a group in the UK and that started it. (eBay pulled all knives off UK eBay besides cuterly)
eBay probably doesn't want the hassle of other countries doing that, with all of the bans on certain types of knives in places like Australia and the UK.

US ebay can still ship to US and sell, as far as i know, you have not been affected at all by the UK Ebay knife ban, unless you get a huge amount of customers from the UK...

What they have stopped however is UK ebayers buying knives from the US, others in the UK and in Europe, all bar cutlery, so no Kershaws, Spyderco's etc.

Ebay buckled after a show over here in the UK bought 5 knives from ebay which they then spouted WRONG legislation information about and hence we are now in this predicament.

I never bought knives from Ebay anyway but still, its just another sign of the overly PC rubbish that goes on here nowadays :(

It isn't a total knife ban, just ebay, so you guys in the US can still post knives here as long as they fall within regulations i.e no automatics, ballisongs, gravity etc, you just can't sell knives to us through ebay ;)

Horribly confusing all this. But looking bad. I didn't find any announcement about a ban international knife sales as such, but looking at what eBay has to say about restricted items, there is this (interesting part bolded) :
........................................................................................................

Firearms, Weapons and Knives

Firearms are prohibited on eBay. Since many firearm-related items, gun parts, gun accessories, stun guns, crossbows, hand weapons and throwing knives are not permitted on eBay, sellers must carefully review the ‘Some Examples’ section below before listing these items and adhere to all the policies outlined.

Furthermore, because of the varied international laws related to the sale of these items, those that are permitted may only be sold on eBay U.S under the following two conditions.

* The item is sold by sellers who are located in United States and

* The item location is also in the United States.

Note: US sellers must offer only domestic shipping on these products, since offering global shipping will make the product available in countries where prohibited.

Weapons listed on eBay U.S. must comply with the California Penal Code covering the sale of weapons, as well as this eBay policy. Otherwise, these items are not permitted on eBay.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

*

Listing cancellation
*

Limits on account privileges
*

Account suspension
*

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
*

Loss of PowerSeller status

........................................................................................................

It does look like knives (even those that are not prohibited like switchblades and push daggers etc.) won't be too available to outside the US then- if any lawyer would like to decipher that message better, please do.

Amusing thing is, as I searched for "knife" and "available to: Finland" I got like 36 000+ results.. seems not all have got the new warning.

I noticed some dealers still have Worldwide shipping on their knife listings, too.
It won't be the first time eBay has been inconsistent in enforcement of "rules", if anything.
I know they sometimes will un-list a butterfly knife other times they don't do anything.

what's going on with the UK, about a month ago I sold a Cold Steel SRK with Carbon V blade over there, the guy was pretty nice about everything...
anywhere else we aren't supposed to send to?
and no, not selling anything on ebay, the market is so down right now...

I didn't mind eBay until they required combined shipping so they can get a cut of the cost.

Now it seems they are pretty much gouging the sellers for every penny and don't realize the Sellers are who pays their bills.

There should Be an Organized Ebay ban day or week. But everyone is in it for them selves.(No Offense) But nobody would particapate. If all Vendors Of Outdoor Gear(Including Knives would Not Do Business for 1 week Ebay would Loose Millions and Mollions Of Dollars.

They are Following the Ultra Liberal States In Europe and also All Of Austrailia. "Civilians can't have Weapons" Period. Is their thoughts on that matter.

It's been forever since I've been active on eBay. First the no negative policy for Sellers and then assorted BS like this international shipping crapola.

Oh well, I like selling on BF more.

I hope ebay goes bankrupt but then it'll probably want a bailout from the taxpayer as usual.

Great, so because of the UK, I can´t order knives from the US anymore through ebay, even though I live in Luxembourg? Well gee thanks.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1541514/Blow-to-Treasury-as-eBay-leaves-the-UK.html

The online auction house eBay is dealing the Treasury a £25 million-a-year blow by moving its tax base from Britain to Luxembourg.

So ebay is based in MY country, and they´ll happily apply our laws when it´s to their benefit. Yet when it comes to knives, the only law it cares about is UK law? Fuck them, I´m done buying anthing there.

One can only assume that knife sales and international ones in particular matter little to the management at eBay. Knives probably are small pennies in all the commerce that goes on there. The new policies are complete bulls**t of course but not much that could be done about it.

I suppose the only use for eBay from now on will be as a reference guide to "prices of the day", for me at least. Good luck to the American brethren whilst waiting for the day when all knife sales are finally terminated.
