eBay stops all international shipping for knives

Maybe a Lawyer can tell us if Ebay can limit payments through PayPal, another Ebay owned company? They screw you for every nickel they can. I wish someone else would open up a competitive auction site and knock them on their ASH'S.

Antitrust suit since they essentially ARE the online auction industry? That might have some legs.

I stopped selling on eBay when they started requiring PayPal, but I still buy on occasion. If somebody else wants to lose PP percentage then that's their decision, but I always preferred MO anyway.

I live in Australia and bought a knife from a US ebay seller yesterday. Paid for it last night with paypal and got confirmation that it was posted this morning. Has anyone outside of the UK actually experienced any problems?

An Aussie won one of mine yesterday, So I think so.
What you don't know is if the seller is willing to ship it internationally?

If you list a knife on eBay now no option to ship anywhere besides the USA comes up.
Before they not only would show it, they'd even suggest it as a way to get better results!

I know that theres is a lot of bad feeling towards ebay from some members on here, but I kinda like ebay. It is the only place I kind find some replacement parts when I break some paintball gear and the pricing on 550 paracord keeps drawing me back for more.

Now I do harbor some resentment towards ebay when it does come to some knife regulations, but it is also a pretty good place to do some exploring when it comes to knives.

Now, you cannot sell a knife on Ebay outside of U.S. sales. You get conflicting stories. I called Ebay yesterday. To make a long story short, the guy I spoke with put me on hold for a few minutes to check with his supervisor...I asked if we can ship overseas. He comes back and tells me, "you can ship overseas, as long as you dont ship to the U.K.", you cannot list under "worldwide", you have to check off each Country individually", but it is o.k. to sell outside of sending to U.K." Thats a quote. An hour later I list a knife for sale, deleting U.K., and submit. An hour goes by and I get a notice from Ebay that my listing was terminated, and we can no longer sell/ship to anyone, internationally!!
Looks like that is the case.

I just sold a Blade to Canada and Russia with no probs.

Though I too have been behinded on eBay before, I have had MANY more good experiences than bad ones. If you do your research, read the description, or list items knowing ahead of time what the fee's are then all should turn-out fine. Though sellers do many times get the shaft, some of the deals to be found are just out of this WORLD!!!!!

You are missing the point. It is not that there is a problem selling or making deals, I have sold many knives internationally with no problem, its that EBAY NO LONGER ALLOWS THE SALE OF KNIVES OUT OF THE COUNTRY!! PERIOD!! USA ONLY!! Pieces you have listed now will probably get by, its when you list something new, they are going to pick up the transaction, and terminate your listing. Its not a Post Office problem, either. Its an Ebay problem. I think ebay is allowing your current auctions to sell or expire, then you cannot list something new (knife), internationally.

This really sucks! And as a Brit, please let me disown our ridiculous government here and now!

The problem might have come from the law that it is illegal here to advertise a knife as intended for fighting or self defense (in the UK there barely is such a thing), it's illegal to advertise balisongs, automatic knives, and several other types. Our customs are now confiscating Axis-lock knives, claiming that they are a form of gravity knife if the pivot is a little slack. Since ebay carry advertisements for the knives, they probably think it's easier to just ban all adverts.

Funny thing is I can still sell my knives here on ebay?!!

It does suck. I've only sold a few knives on Ebay, but they were usually to other countries.

On the other hand, it's a private company. No point in complaining about how they run their business. All the "$#!@ Ebay!" and "they should be sued" stuff is just silly to me. I don't believe a company should be penalized or threatened with litigation because they a) run their business the way they want or b) have become successful enough to be the primary supplier of a service. There are other auction sites out there, and people are free to use them and never visit Ebay again if that is their choice.

Personally I'm glad Ebay exists. I've gotten some fantastic deals on there and bought things that would have been otherwise impossible to find. It has also given many small businesses a virtual storefront that otherwise would not exist. I would run it differently if it were mine, but it's not, so there's no point in whining about it.

I've just found out what's caused the fuss...

Watchdog, a 'consumer affairs' program from the BBC, ordered some knives from the US, some of which are illegal to import into the UK. They then whinged to customs etc about it and basically raised a stink. Instead of charging them with the crime they knowingly committed, the authorities it seems complained to ebay, who have done the obvious thing to do.

It also seems that they are going to ban all knife adverts on ebay in the UK, not just US ones as at present. Oh well; rarely bought off ebay anyway.
