Thanks to Rob's generous raffle, and my extrodinary luck, I'm the recipient of his effort to stimulate the economy. In keeping with his request on the initial give-away, this thread will chronicle the ripple-effect of his stimulus.

In a strange twist of fate, this weekend while in the shop the motor on my metal cutting bandsaw gave out. Now I've got a 1hp baldor that I use on the coote grinder in my shop, which I was going to move over to the KMG while I saved up for a VFD. Well now that 1hp motor is going to move to my bandsaw, and this morning I placed an order with Beaumont Metalworks for

KMG mounting baseplate, 1.5hp motor, 2 maska 3step pulleys, drive belt, and a motor wiring kit.

I was planning on getting a small wheel attachment and a 3/4 small wheel and a spare tooling arm right off the bat, but unfortunately a blown motor has delayed that.

In the mean time, I spoke with my electrician, who I was very happy with when he did a 200amp service upgrade and installed a few circuits for me in my basement last fall, and I'm going to be having him come out in a few weeks to run a 50 amp 220 volt circuit to my garage, where my workshop is. I had in mind to get this done eventually, but havent had anything in my shop to really need 220 as of yet, not having a power hammer or forging press or heat treating oven or the like. So my income tax return is getting spent on this circuit in preparation for, hopefully sooner rather than later, a nice 2hp VFD setup for the new KMG (after which the 1.5hp will go on the coote, which I plan on hopefully getting set up to use as a surface grinder similar to the one that IG uses at his place)

Next, I just placed an order with Pops for a bunch more belts (some 400grit 320grit and some more 120 grit, I always go through the higher grits fastest) and ordered some spacing material as well for future use.

I'm on the lookout now for some steel, as I'm down to my last 3 feet of the 1x1/4 1084 that i've been using.

I'm also going to be building a new workbench just for the KMG when it comes, so i'll be getting pictures and everything up in the coming weeks =)

Thats awesome Justin. Congrats on the win too!

Congrats again, Justin, and best of luck in your endeavors! Looking forward to watching and learning.

The KMG is on the way! It is crated and packed and sitting on the bench waiting to the FedEx truck...I think you'll have it by the weekend.

My fedex guy is going to LOVE me this week... 110lb box and two 50lb boxes, which should theoretically all arrive on the same day >_<

I'm looking at seeing if i can get one of those big wooden cable spools from the electrical supply place near me to use as a work table and put the KMG on instead of building a new one. They make great tables, but I don't know if they'll sell me one. Cant hurt to ask and find out tomorrow morning when i swing by on the way to work to pick up some other stuff.

Fedex guy just dropped off the KMG, motor, pulleys etc! I went to the electrical supply house near me this morning and picked up some things, and a big 4" round 4" high wooden spool for use as a workbench... my garage is so cramped full of stuff at the moment that i need to spend some time this afternoon moving everything around to make room for it. Pictures to follow soon! Wiring up the motor during lunch atm.

Awesome Justin!!!

I gotta ask though... 4" round and 4" high.... Did Rob send you a mini-KMG?!?! :p :p :p :D

I'm glad such a nice, young guy won the grinder. I know it went to an appreciative home, and it will get put to great use! (now the MAP arm on the other hand... ;) :D).

We're gonna need some pics Justin!!!!!!! :D

Err i meant 4 feet !

here's some pics, i just got it set up, put a belt on and turned it on and made some dust out of a chunk of metal. I was leaning into pretty hard, and at least with the cross section that I was pressing into the platten, I couldn't stop the 1.5hp at 3500 feet per minute belt speed , which is a significant change from even just the 1hp motor that I was previously grinding with.

I'm in love ! *swoons over his new KMG*

My new order of belts from Pop's should be here tomorrow, and I should be getting more steel possibly as soon as this weekend at the NCCA knife show... I'm set for grinding like mad ! =)

Err, you know, it helps if I put the pictures in when I say that I'm posting pictures

Justin,

I know it's exciting to get things set up so you can start grinding on the new machine... but you need to paint that bad-boy before it's too late. :D Maybe a nice pink floral motif.:p
