Thanks to Rob's generous raffle, and my extrodinary luck, I'm the recipient of his effort to stimulate the economy. In keeping with his request on the initial give-away, this thread will chronicle the ripple-effect of his stimulus.
In a strange twist of fate, this weekend while in the shop the motor on my metal cutting bandsaw gave out. Now I've got a 1hp baldor that I use on the coote grinder in my shop, which I was going to move over to the KMG while I saved up for a VFD. Well now that 1hp motor is going to move to my bandsaw, and this morning I placed an order with Beaumont Metalworks for
KMG mounting baseplate, 1.5hp motor, 2 maska 3step pulleys, drive belt, and a motor wiring kit.
I was planning on getting a small wheel attachment and a 3/4 small wheel and a spare tooling arm right off the bat, but unfortunately a blown motor has delayed that.
In the mean time, I spoke with my electrician, who I was very happy with when he did a 200amp service upgrade and installed a few circuits for me in my basement last fall, and I'm going to be having him come out in a few weeks to run a 50 amp 220 volt circuit to my garage, where my workshop is. I had in mind to get this done eventually, but havent had anything in my shop to really need 220 as of yet, not having a power hammer or forging press or heat treating oven or the like. So my income tax return is getting spent on this circuit in preparation for, hopefully sooner rather than later, a nice 2hp VFD setup for the new KMG (after which the 1.5hp will go on the coote, which I plan on hopefully getting set up to use as a surface grinder similar to the one that IG uses at his place)
Next, I just placed an order with Pops for a bunch more belts (some 400grit 320grit and some more 120 grit, I always go through the higher grits fastest) and ordered some spacing material as well for future use.
I'm on the lookout now for some steel, as I'm down to my last 3 feet of the 1x1/4 1084 that i've been using.
I'm also going to be building a new workbench just for the KMG when it comes, so i'll be getting pictures and everything up in the coming weeks =)
