Economic stimulus at work!

Very Cool.

Great job and congrats!

OOOhhhh, so nice... I just shaped the handle on the knife I'm working on currently and it was wonderful ! I'm all out of high grit belts past 220 until my order from pops arrives but I hogged away from the way oversized over thick scales I made from a block and took this handle up to 220 in no time at all.

This will be finished knife #9 for me #12 overall if you count the failures which were abandoned just short of completion, and the first one I'm making with the intent of keeping for myself so that I've got something to show people when I say that I make knives as a hobby.

Congratulations! I like the way you set it up too. Presumably the table is heavy enough to resist some heavy hogging weight. You're smart to get your electrical set up properly. I keep saying I'm going to do that, then spend my money on other things. If you saw all the cords strung around my shop you'd freak out. I'm going to try once again to emulate your example and get some proper electrical distribution going in my shop.

I can't wait to see what comes out of there! Keep us posted.

Wow, that arrived pretty fast!!

Justin, I'm so glad to see that you didn't waste anytime in putting it to use.

A couple of general comments:

You have recieved the first of a revised workrest for the KMG. The back of the slotted arm is now open which allows you to slide the workrest on and off without having to remove the bolts.

Also, the workrest is notched so that it wraps around the platen or contact wheel rather than just sitting in front of it.

Be sure to remove the belt tension when you are done at the end of the day. The KMG uses more belt tension than the other grinders...and it will distort your belts if you leave them on the machine overnight. The result might be a belt that ran perfect yesterday...but now wobbles like crazy today.

What a beautiful looking knife!! ...can't wait to see it finished!

Thanks for posting!

My belts from pop's arrived today, and, well, the knife is done, but for the life of me I cant get another picture as good as the unfinished one above. I suck at taking pictures!

My next knife will be wholly done on the KMG, this one only had the handle done on it. So here are my horrible pictures of my 9th finished knife... gads I'm slow. Hopefully the KMG will greatly speed things up =)

Blade is forged from 1084, not sure what wood the handle material is, some unknown rosewood is all that I know. 7 inches long overall length.
Sheath was made by Chris Kravitt of Treestump Leather.
