I figuared it was time for me to do a give away. I have been itching to do forging for months as i have had a cast on my right arm for way to long and its driving me crazy not being able to make knives. so i could not take it any more and i started up the forge and press and started flattening down some of crucibles L6. it is 1" round stock that i am taking down to under 1/4" in thickness and when ever my press will do. I'm guessing 1.25 - 1.5" or so wide as i only have drawing dies that stretch in one direction for right now. but i will put it on the surface grinder and it will look like Precision Ground bar stock when i'm done. i'm not sure how long it will be but i'm hopeing 12" but maybe just a bit less. there will be enough to stock remove a good knife. This is a rare opportunity for you stock removal guys to try a steel that really only us forgers can work with as i have not seen it in flat stock, and even round stock if getting hard to find. I need more propane and will pick soe more up tomarow and i am hopeing to have it all forged and ground by the end of the week. but we will see as i cant work my hand to much. what the press will press is what i have to work with as i cant really use a hammer as my proken hand is my tong holding hand :(. so lets say you pick a number between 1 and 100 and zero does not count ;) just incase any one is wondering. i will have bubba-doll pick a random number out of a hat or bag and thats the winner. i hope every one likes it and has fun. if this goes well i might do another one. as i really have the forging bug and its driving me stir crazy. on your marks, get set, GO

update, i thought i would post some pictures of how far i have gotten so far. man having a press is sweet. sorry just have my camera phone to take pictures with. if you win this steel you need to make a knife out of it and not just forget about it. if you end up not wanting it give it to some one else. it spoke to me tonight while i was forging it and it told me that it cant wait to be made into a knife. i told it that it will happen and that it just needs to wait till it gets a new home

The bar is all done and ground, it looks very very nice. some one will be very happy. here are 2 pictures of in. it ended up being .125 thick by 1.4-1.47 wide by 13.75 long ( i think). i left the width as was forged because i did not want to wast material trying to make the sides perfectly straight. it might just give you the room you needed to make the knife you wanted. so i just left it at stock width and figured you can do with it as you please. there is enough to make 2 knives :D man a lot of work went into making this little bar of steel.

Excellent, JT. I've never worked with L6 but would welcome the chance. I'll take 59.

Thanks!

Great idea. I get confused with these complicated rules though. My answer is: Who is Rumblestiltskin?
Actually I will take 22.
Thanks, Chip Kunkle

I will go with 75. So far the only steel I worked with was 1095, would be fun to try something new. Thanks.
