Economy

The things I count on most are my skills to survive, and the unprepared ignorance of others, both of which there is no shortage.

It is sick. It's also true. Construction means more jobs for construction workers.

Lets do a little thinking here: All those employed construction workers will have to shop at the local supermarket, they will have to buy gas at the gas station, they all have to have a place to live, they will have to pay property taxes just like everybody else, they will have to go to the doctor just like everybody else, they will have to.......

....and you don't think all those jobs are going to stimulate the local economy in general???? California has the 8th largest economy in the world! Maybe you are seeing a recession where you live...but please don't move here!!!!

And lets see, all those folks who's houses go burned down will need a place to live while their houses get rebuilt, they will have to buy new furniture, new clothes, new everything......all with insurance money that comes from the coffers of some insurance corporation that is probably based out of state.....

An absolute economic windfall!

Umm, no.

This is like claiming your car getting stolen is good for the economy because you're now compelled to buy a new car. After all, the car dealer and the car factory will make money selling you a new car, right? Of course, you are compelled to buy a car, and the money you will spend would have otherwise been used to to support the economy by buying goods or services or investments. So that new pool, or boat, or business opportunity is effectively nixed. The economic windfall for the car dealer is setting you back a pretty penny, and costing the pool contractor, the boatmaker, and the employees you may have had otherwise.

All that rebuild money doesn't materialize out of thin air. It was simply a transfer of money out of insurance, personal, and public coffers. The windfall for construction workers comes at the expense of insurance companies and homeowners mostly who are now replacing actual losses rather than using that money to invest in new goods and services.
