Ed Schempp fixed blade

Hmmmmm.......looks like Spyderco is jumping into a new niche.

I sort-of expect it to be ugly as sin, extra hard working, abused by people who dislike the handle material, short-lived, and much loved after being discontinued. I hope the last 3 don't come to pass, but I think Spyderco's laudable quest for innovation and affordability sometimes have the casualties of sub-premium handle material and short life span. (Note - sub-premium is not necessarily a pejorative. Not too many camp knives are gussied up in Bark Mammoth. If it performs, I'll take it!!!!)

Sal & co rarely disappoint, and I'm looking forward to this one!

The handle material still hasn't been announced yet. There is still hope for Micarta or G10 scales.

Gentlemen,
When I made the original concept, and then again when I made the knife that will be put into production; function was put first and foremost in the design. I put $4 worth of neoprene that I bought from my local shoe repairman on both knives. But the bottom line is; how does it work? It absorbs shock better than any other material I have used. It is comfortable, and very resistant to slipping. I hope that the handle slaps can be made out of neoprene for the production knife. I don't think my fastening system for the neoprene slaps will translate to production I imagine that the first handle material will be micarta, so they can be machined. I prefer organic contours to textured grips, mainly because of abrasion problems. My goal was to make a piece that could be used for extended periods of time safely and effectively; and the handle is what conects the blade to the user...Take Care...Ed

Maybe the handle slabs will be removable, then the owner will have the option of putting whatever on it. Micarta to 550 cord, neoprene or G10.
Just an idea.
I am looking forward to a 9.5 blade from Spyderco.
