I can get a Seiko 007 for around 160USD does any one have any opinions about wearing one on a Jame Bond NATO strap??? How tough are these??

I've gone from G-shocks to the Sieko. The Seiko is much heavier of course but one adjusts to that fairly easily. I prefer the rhino strap to the Nato. A bit thicker which helps balance the watch on the wrist. My SKX171K started at about 5 minutes per month fast and has now gone out to about 8-10 minutes and stabilised there. I could probably get it regulated close but I have no problem with that gain - one of the joys of owning a mechanical. I like to think that the rest of the world should keep time with me, not the other way round :D

The nylon straps are plenty tough. I have even been to a couple of worksites that ban them because they wont break when grabbed by machinery etc - they require watch bands that will break if pulled hard and divers bands are not allowed.

Just remember to take it off and wash it from time to time or you will be wondering about that strange smell......

Knife - I carry two knives. A Spyderco Military does most of the cutting work. A SAK Huntsman does everything else.

Watch - I wear a Tough Solar G-Shock 2300B with a nylon strap. I used to wear a Seiko automatic diver, but I live by the alarms on my G-Shock. I've abused the hell out of the G-Shock, and it just won't quit.

Light - I carried an ARC AAA until I lost it. I now carry a 3 snow LED Peak LED Solutions AAA. I don't miss the ARC one bit.

Spyderjon thanks for the info on chronograph.com it has the lowest prices of anywhere I've seen. Ming how do you wash a nato strap, just rinse it in warm water or use some kind of soap or solution?

While on the subject any opinions of the orange or black monsters compared to the original seiko diver, they use the same movements but look very different. I'm either going to get a Monster or a 007 any ideas?

Non-Beaters:
  • Knife - Decorated Sebenza
  • Lite - Arc4
  • Watch - Vestal
Beaters:
  • Knife - Spyderco Scorpius
  • Flashlight - Streamlight Jr. Luxeon
  • Watch - Old Timex Ironman that I found buried in some dirt.

I just chuck in the washing machine with my clothes from time to time - minus the watch of course. I take the watch off and soak it and the band in freshwater most days anyway because I'm in salt water almost every day - so it gets a rinsing then as well. Soaking in fresh water after being in the salt makes the seals last longer.

Here's my EDCs, haven't really spent a lot of time out in the field w/ them all to truly test toughness, but they are solid performers for my day to day.

Knife: Benchmade 710 HSSR
Light: Arc AAA & Surefire G2
Watch: Suunto Observer

Knives:
Benchmade 551 Griptilian, sometimes Spyderco micarta Calypso Jr, but I'm gonna get a Spyderco plain-edge Atlantic Salt.

Watch:
Swiss Army (Victorinox) Divemaster with yellow face and SS bracelet.

No lights.

Happy hunting,
Allen.
