Howdy,

I've searched around the forum, you guys know your stuff.

I'm looking at getting a great all round EDC with a budget of $100-150 cdn.

I'm looking at bm griptillian, as well as the mini freek. Seeing as its EDC, it should be light, clip in the pocket well.

I also was wondering what the consensus was on the OKC folders? I have a kukri by them that's a beast.

Many thanks,
Z

As far as Benchmade, the Griptilian is one of the best bangs for your buck. I have owned several and they are fantastic edc knives. The mini grip is a good choice too if you are ever in the market for a smaller blade. Don’t forget, when you purchase a Benchmade, your knife is backed by the some of the best customer service in the industry.

But doesn't th3 freek have much benter steel?

You can't go wrong with either Benchmade.
OKC makes quality knives. Especially the RAT 1 & 2 in D2. Not on the same level as BM. However, you get WAY more bang for your buck.
You can't go wrong either way. Although, If you are looking for your "one" EDC I would say get the Griptillian or Mini Grip. BM's got the best customer service in the industry (IMO), and will take care of you for a lifetime. Free sharpening and cleaning. Along with free parts they will even re-blade a knife for $30 bucks.

But is it twice the knife? Rating d2 is 70 the BM 140

S30V does offer better edge retention and corrosion resistance than 154cm, but I personally don’t prefer one over the other. I have owned numerous knives in both steels either one gets the job done. The griptilian is also available in N680 and D2 tool steel as well.

Spyderco offers some in between options. Endura or Delica is a staple. Or higher end with pm2 or Manix 2. You also have to decide if the made in America stamp is meaningful to you.

Griptilian is hard to beat! I owned the carbon fiber rat 2 D2 for about a month before trading it away. For me it was to small and the construction of the griptilian IMHO is way better.
Buy the grip with confidence!

If you're looking for the best bargain and value for your dollar, then it's the RATs in D2 by a landslide.
That being said. The Griptillian is a better knife in every other way. Better lock. Better steel. Better build quality. Better customer service. More blade and clip options, and customizable if you want. And it's more fun to play with. I've spent hours just flicking open & closed my Axis lock knives.

It's like cars. The Honda Civic is a damn fine car, but it aint no Mustang.

The Benchmade Mini Presidio is my latest Benchmade. It's a manual axis lock knife and I really like it. It is about the size of a Spydie Native. I'm a fan of the axis lock. It was just a tad over $150.

In Canada, a Griptilian or a Bugout are the best values IMO. I carry both a lot.

Any $50-60CAD knife in D2 (Ontario Rat and Steel Will Cutjack to name a couple) is worth a look, but I would spend the extra $$$ for Benchmade’s warranty and Axis Lock.

My carry is close to that, a Griptilian or a 531 depending upon the task of the day. Add a fixed blade to the mix and your kit is ready for almost any cutting task. In my case, the FB is a Benchmade 162. :)

Of course, purchase all three RATs (RAT1, RAT2, and a RAT3 FB) and you could do the same for much less. I own a RAT2 and I have to admit it is a very nice knife for the money. Almost zero stress if it gets lost, too.

Personally, I think a RAT1 and a RAT3 would make a better combo. Add a SAK Cadet for a small budget dress/travel knife and you are done. You could have all three for not much more than the cost of a Griptilian.

Griptillian seems so popular but that 154cm steel isn't as good as the mini freek or bugout, why the love of the grip?
