EDC fixed blade?

I like a little Tortorich custom caper, a bark river micro Canadian, a Benchmade 211 activator, a Crkt Stubby Pocket Razel, and a TOPS Ferret for fixed EDC. I've been making kydex sheaths with clips that hang on my belt loop then go in my front pocket. I find them easier to get to than a neck knife and still unobtrusive.

Is that a Bicycle chain link connecting the the clip to the sheath?

I find that attaching a pocket clip to the sheath, then carrying it like a folder works really well. most of mine are kydex sheaths so they are small and do a good job of staying out of the way. sure 3 or 4 inches stick up, but thats o.k.

Ha ha! Yes, yes it is. And it's the perfect low profile connection between the grommet and the clip!

Wait, scratch that. It's a precision manufactured component in a mechanical power transmission system that's been re-purposed as a press fit coupling used in a system designed to securely retain and easily deploy an edged tool.

Here is a selection of production fixed blades that are more or less suitable for pocket carry.

I kid you not, I love it when someone talks straight.

Nice set up. I've long been a fan of front pocket, sheathed fixed blade carry.

Throw a hitch in the chain, para-cord or lanyard you've used to secure the sheath around your belt loop, or belt and secure the sheathed knife in the intended pocket.

And it's there for you all day long. Simply draw the knife/sheath combo and when it reaches the terminal length of the method you've utilized to secure it, Voila! Out comes your bade!:D

Ok, in all seriousness though, neck knife carry is my favorite method of carrying a small fixed blade. Here are my reasons why...

1. It's concealed. Very concealed.
I prefer to keep my EDC fixed blade small enough to fit in the pocket.

Small fixed-blades are great, but just be aware of your local laws.

Check out NC's laws on "concealed carry"....

A. Carrying Concealed Weapons

North Carolina law strictly controls the ability of individuals to carry weapons concealed.

Except under the limited concealed handgun permit provisions of state law, described in Sections
III. B and III. C of this publication, it is unlawful for any person in North Carolina, except when on his or her own premises, to willfully and intentionally carry concealed, either on or about his or her person, any "Bowie Knife, dirk, dagger, slingshot, loaded cane, metallic knuckles, razor, shurikin, stungun, or other deadly weapon of like kind.”

Specifically exempted from the requirements of this law are ordinary pocket knives carried in a closed position.
An ordinary pocket knife is defined as being "a small knife, that is designed to be carried in a pocket or purse, which has its cutting edge and point entirely enclosed by its handle.
The knife must not be capable of being opened by a throwing, explosive, or spring action." N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-269

For this very reason, when I carry a fixed-blade, I carry it in a belt sheath and unconcealed.
So again, check out your local laws (state, county, and city) before you conceal your fixed-blade.

Good luck,
Allen

Love how they really pin it down for you so there's no doubt left regarding how to remain legal...

What really frustrates me is that the only people reading that mush mouthed, CYA, all encompassing, disclaimer are honest folks actually making an effort to remain within the limits of the law.

ANZA (made just outside of San Diego, Ca.) makes smaller fixed blade knives, out of Nicholson files.
Inexpensive and very rugged too!

I like that! An easy elegant solution for my pants where the loop isn't right at the edge of my pocket.

I prefer the KSF City Sheath method. Minimal, handy, effective.

Nice. Front pocket or back pocket? Are those business cards in the wider slot? A knife wallet with a slot for ID and credit cards backed by a money clip next to the knife sheath might be the bomb...

What I am noticing in this post, is none of the gentlemen pictured with fixed blade edc's have the accursed shredded pocket due to folder pocket clips.
I am sold on Fixed blade edc's.
rlcanon I am stealing your rig design for personal use, it is just to simple to pass on.

Alabama knife laws seem really unclear to me.
Seems fairly clear to me...

§ 13A-11-50. Carrying concealed weapons. Except as otherwise provided in this Code, a person who carries concealed about his person a bowie knife or knife or instrument of like kind or description or a pistol or firearm of any other kind or an air gun shall, on conviction, be fined not less than $50.00 nor more than $500.00, and may also be imprisoned in the county jail or sentenced to hard labor for the county for not more than six months. (Code 1852, §15; Code 1867, §3555; Code 1876, §4109; Code 1886, §3775; Code 1896, §4420; Code 1907, §6421; Code 1923, §3485; Code 1940, T. 14, §161; Code 1975, §13-6-120.)
Carry a concealed knife and you could get fined anywhere between $50.00 and $500.00 dollars, and you could be locked up for up to six months or be sentenced up to six months hard labor.

Knife laws suck!

In addition to the production brands mentioned, keep an eye on the fixed blade subforum of the knifemakers' for sale area. Many of the knives that get listed there would be a good size for EDC.

I got my EDC fixed blade from a new maker (new to BF) Sam Stoner. This one cost me $150. Knife only. I made the sheath in approx 4 hours once I got the knife.

the CRK is a great suggestion.... another good one is the swamp rat swamp warden, really great knife with a good warranty

I carried the Izula for a while as my EDC, good knife, serves the purpose very well.

Recently got the Izula-II which has a longer handle and full scales and I really like it as well.

Either are a good choice as well as the many others already suggested.

That gives me a great idea for a new way to carry my Emerson PUK. I work in security right now and I've been trying to figure out how to carry it without going to a belt sheath, or somehow carrying it in a square BDU pocket. This might be the ticket.

Quattrokid73- I like your sheath setup. I've seen it a few times now. Which knife are you carrying in it and how long is it overall?

Thanks.

Well, I carry one of three knives in the City Sheath:

Little Creek
Mikro Canadian
PSK

But I have the standard Adirondak Pocket Sheath (back pocket), which I can carry anything in....

And I have the Pocono front pocket sheath, which I can carry anything but my Necker in.

They all work flawlessly. There is a lack of retention after they break in on the smaller models, but it's rather safe unless you're doing acrobatics all day.

And yes, it fits standard credit cards. 4-5 of them. I carry 4...It's amazing.
