Hi guys, I've been edcing a $3 ultrafire flashlight for a couple of years now and love it, but I'm looking for something lighter and with a better run time. I really don't know much about lights and looking to keep it under $30. What do you guys recommend?

I have 2 streamlights, a junior led 2AA and a stylus pro 2AAA and a thrunite Ti3 on my keys. All 3 are affordable quality lights. The junior led is the only one that is above your budget and only by a bit IIRC.

I like the Fenix PD22 for EDC but it is probably closer to $50. It is small and light and plenty bright. You might get lucky and find a used one of the older versions for less.

There are several small Maglites that are actually pretty good, the versions that use 3-AAA batteries.

You didn't tell us what your preferences are with respect to size, type of batteries and so forth.

Streamlight Microstream. Plenty of light on one AAA battery. Two modes, on and off. About $20, and a well made little light.

Fenix pd22 here as well. Great little light. I like that I don't need to blind people if I keep it on low but can see great if I kick it up to high.

I would like to keep it small as possible (it will be for pocket carry) also want it to use common batterys AA AAA
not real sure about lumens I would like a high and low mode.

One of my favorite lights is an Eagletac D25a clicky, 200 lumens and perfect size. It is the one in my pocket more than any other. It's the silver one.

checkout the eagletac d25c. I picked up the d25c titanium version and its a sweet little light. Kind of pricey but well worth the money to me. I think you can find the regular d25c or d25a (AA) for around 30 bucks.

Fenix E-12 for AA, Fenix E-5 for AAA, Single battery, decent run-time, very reliable and cheap. The PD line are good, but I like how simple and reliable the E series are.

+1. I was going to post these two as well. I'll add a Fenix LD02 (right around $30) and Jetbeam BA10 ($35ish).

I carry a streamlight nano on my keychain. I gave my daughter and grandson the Olight is3. I also carry a four sevens mini AA. That one is a bit above your price point but I've been very happy with it and with the service from the company. Another brand to take a look at is ThruNite. The T10, ThruNite Ti3, and the ThruNite Ti 162 are all good choices for edc and under $30.

My current favorite AAA light is the Preon P1. It sells for about $30 in anodized aluminum. Here's why I like it: It is super simple, and the clip is secure and rides deeper than all my other AAA lights. And Jason Hui makes an awesome Ti aftermarket clip. If you'll be using a pocket clip regularly, I'd recommend getting a light where the clip doesn't just snap on/off. The P1 pictured is the Titanium version. I picked it up on Amazon as an open box (brand new) for $36 from a seller called "Kandlepower." If only it had a Nichia 219 instead of the XP-G, it would be "perfect". The tint is fairly cool.

In a AA size light, the Thrunite T10 with a neutral white XP-G is hard to beat for under $30. But it carries much less discreetly...

yeah, couldn't remember and was too lazy to dig it out of my box of goodies. My E11 has been a outstanding light. I don't really think anything can really compare.

Thanks for all the info guys:)
I'm leaning towards the fenix e-12, I do wish it had zoom like my little ultrafire.

Streamlight Microstream
Pelican 1910 (2 mode)
Maglite Solitaire LED version

These are my top 3. (I like AAA form factor)

Good choice. Not quite sure, but my E11 has two modes. So I don't see my the E12 wouldn't. Not to mention the build quality is great. In my research when buying the eagletac the only I noticed at least in my opinion was that there is no such thing as a perfect light that would fit the bill for everything I desired. You will be happy though.

^^Nice lights all.
Some great options for AA & AAA lights. I have to say that this one has kicked a lot of lights out of my pocket however.
Armytek C1 Prime. Runs on CR123 Or rechargeable RCR123 (more power, longer run times) and there is a AA version. But built like an absolute tank.
Went with a warm beam.
