Edc flashlight??

I also have the Fenix PD22, but it's more than $30.
I got the Fenix E12 for my girlfriend for $25. It uses AA batteries and has selectable modes. The downsides are that it doesn't remember the last mode used, it always starts on low. And there is no separate mode button. You change modes with a partial press of the on/off switch. A lot of people consider those pluses, though. It can tailstand, which is something my PD22 can't do.
Throw an Energizer Ultimate Lithium in it for increased runtime, reduced weight, and no leaking, and you'll be good to go. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it.

The E11 and 12 are siblings, the 11 uses the tension on the head to set hi-lo like some of the other fenix E lights, so it can be set while on or off. The 12 is by tapping the button (the button is a reverse click, I think... the 11 is forward, either way they are opposite) the 12 is three mode, I generally have found low to be good for most things, looking through the garage or under a car seat. But I can bump it to full power if I need.

Admittedly, my big bias towards fenix besides that they work so well, is that I feel they are good value for the money. There might be better lights in the price bracket in the US but here in australia, most of the other brands are double the cost by the time I get one shipped. So for my money fenix wins, the eagletacs, streamlites and preons aren't worth twice the MSRP for me. I can get the fenixs for near what you guys can.

I've found the beam of the e12 to be pretty decent. I used it on an overnight search and rescue training session, along side my black diamond spot headlamp in flood mode. I figure I had 100% vision out to 30 yards which was enough for the situation. flood for my feet, fenix for looking, and it did the job. Next time I would take more light, but it did what I needed it to do, and honestly I rarely carry a bigger light.

Eneloops are very good as far as rechargeable batteries go, and if you go through batteries, pay for themselves pretty quick.

As a couple others have said, the Thrunite T10 is an excellent small AA light. I am incredibly impressed with mine and it sells for about $27 online.

second Gadgetgeeks recommendation of the E05 and E12 running on Eneloops... the 2014 E05 (3 mode) is my keychain light and the E12 goes in the pocket... the E21 is my around the house and hurricane task light

Sorry im late on this topic,
I carry an Olight S30R. For those unfamiliar, it is a small 1000 lumen rechargeable light.
If you like this light but prefer an even smaller version there is the Olight S10R which is a rechargeable 400 lumen light.
I love the controls and features these lights offer, 4 different brightness settings, strobe, and a lock out so u don't accidentally turn it on.
(Oh and the base of the light is magnetic since that is how it connects to its charger)

Hope this was helpful and I made it in to the runnings!

*** Oops I didnt see your price point when I posted this. I suggest looking at www.lightjunction.com. you can search by price if you'd like.

If you want the AAA form factor, there's the Coast G19 (1 AAA), G20, (2 AAA), and the HP4 (2 AAA). The G19 and G20 have spotlight lenses and no momentary mode, so they're good utility lights. The HP4 is outwardly identical to the G20, but has a standard lens for flood, 100 lumen output, and a momentary/clicky switch. I was fine with the 20 as an EDC light (bought the 19 by mistake), until a near-miss with (I hope) a dumpster diver on my way to work a few months back. After that I wanted something a little brighter. The HP4 is under $30 shipped, and the others are under $15 shipped from the bookstore.

The pocket clips are so-so and the weakest thing about them. Given their cost, if I lost one or it ended up in an evidence locker, I wouldn't have cried too long about it.

I think the Thrunite 2A V2 is a great EDC light
other than that.
The mini Mag lite.

Coast G19, 11 bucks from Home Depot. I won't be depressed for days if I lose it. At 54 lumens, it's enough for my EDC needs. In addition, I have a new for 2015 Ozark Trails (Walmart brand) 200 lumen headlamp, $21, that I keep in my backpack. Great values in my humble opinion.

I also carry a Maratac AAA copper Rev 3, which prompted me to sell or give away all my other single AAA lights and acquire 3 of these great little lights, a Rev 2 and two Rev 3.

Not to knock other brands, but I have pretty much stuck with Fenix for the past few years and have had no problems with about ten of their lights.

The question of EDC is one of size, I carry an E99 which runs on a single AAA it is definitely a keychain light really inexpensive versions are available. However to get the most bang for size a CR123 is a really good choice although you will exceed your budget and be bulkier, but the performance is light years (pun intended) ahead. I kind of broke ranks and got an Olight S10 Baton which I love. We got a dozen for the crew and they have performed admirably. There is probably a newer version and Fenix probably has a a similar model in their lineup now.

Around $38 the Maratec Copper AAA is a great little EDC. Disappears in the watch pocket of blue jeans.
Medium mode, 40 lumens output for upto 7 hours
Low mode, 1.5 lumens output for upto 55 hours
High mode, 138 lumens output for upto 70 minutes

Plus 1 on these. I have one in Brass. I would grab one either in Copper or Brass while they still have them. I prefer the brass as you do not have the bad taste if you have to hold it in your mouth.
Right now I have all these from Maratac
AA stainless Older model with the low med high
AA newer model Med low high
AA Alum lunar low-high
AAA Brass med low high. Tie between this one and the newer AA for my favorite.
CR123 Copper works well but could have finer threads on the head for me.

This thread got me in the mood to remove the patina on my brass and copper light. Here are all mine all cleaned up.

I haven't gone crazy yet in the world of EDC lights yet, but I got a Surefire LX2 Lumamax a couple years ago that I carried daily for awhile but it quickly became too cumbersome to carry. I have used it a bunch on jobs though. I've a PX2 Fury also that just stays at home as it's not great for EDC but great for anything else. I'd been mulling over getting something thinner like the Streamlight Protac AAA light but just never would drop the coin on it.

Congrats though, after seeing this thread I've already put in an order for a Maratac Copper AAA. Has a second kind of cool, impressive output ratings for a tiny AAA light, and seems to be small enough I can actually pocket it everyday. Can't wait to receive it.

You will like it. Hefty but not too much.Truly world class finishing. I was really impressed with the output on such a small light. Try the Energizer lithium AAA batteries in it. They give a little more output, heat and cold do not bother them and they will not leak.

Thanks for the battery tips. Seems like with battery it's just under 1.5 ounces. Not bad and I like a little heft. I can see it riding side by side in pocket with my small Sebenza in its pocket sheath with no problem.

One of my favorite lights is an Eagletac D25a clicky, 200 lumens and perfect size. It is the one in my pocket more than any other. It's the silver one.

Omenwolf, what is the one 6 from the left, the one with the light on the side?

Thanks!
