edc for a college gal

For retention and slice quotient, I like my CRKT Bear Claw. A woman could carry it with the sheath attached to a keyring so that it's in her hand on the way to and from the car or residence, which is where most women are assaulted by strangers, I think. Most people don't think of it as sheeple-friendly, but it looks surprisingly dinky and amusing really, especially in the sheathe.

If someone says that rank amateurs can't make meaningful use of a knife in self defense, I disagree. Show most people where and how to cut, which takes a few minutes, and they'll damn sure cut if they have to. Won't make them knife duelists, but it might give a rapist a nice surprise.

I think push daggers have the most sociopathic image of any knife except switchblades. Which is a shame, really. It's not like somebody who is cut or stabbed by a push dagger is more cut or stabbed than they would have been by a Hello Kitty Fruit and Veggie Knife.

I would suggest the benchmade mini-grip. many different colors to choose from to make it more sheeple friendly and also a great knife for any situation.

Good Job Earl!!!!
How about a Buck Nobleman?
Better yet Buck Rush!!!!
Good luck!

I think the Spyderco Spin is a sharp and excellent, and fairly discreet little knife.

A leatherman juice or squirt would most likely get the most use. They are people friendly and can do many jobs, fairly cheap and are small enough to not be clunky.

Suddenly I want to spend about a grand on those bulk bucket-O-knives and hand them out for free on a campus somewhere.

I have two teenage daughters,I have given this much thought over the years.

I bought two PE waved Delicas .

Small, light easy to always carry. Mine (kids)are aways in workout type clothes and often don't bother with a purse. Cell phone with ID and a few bills in the phone case and they're off. The clip makes it possible to always carry with ease .

To me a knife and pepperspray are not interchangable. One is a for low threat one for a deadly threat.

Mine workout with weights, plamstick use, empty hands, spray and knife.Ok they also own and shoot guns.

I would recommend getting her the book: "The Gift Of Fear" by Gavin DeBecker, to start the process of obtaining situational awareness.

How many people besides me pictured some gorgeous young blonde cutting open something in the middle of a campus when they read the title of this thread?

Hahahahaha, is that really true?! :p That is too funny.

I think the great thing about the HAK (hideaway knife) is that it can function very similarly to a push dagger, but there is no question about its utilitarian value; I mean, Frontsight came up with the idea while *gardening*.

The thing that would worry me about a Bear Claw is it's in AUS-4.

Just to throw some things out there, I wouldn't mess with oc spray or stun guns. For a knife, it really shouldn't matter what it looks like as it would likely be in her purse most of the time. I think an untrainned female would do fine with something hawkbilled. -Spyderco has several modles. For a little more she could carry a mod lady hawk too. And if you wanted to go the colorful route, spyderco has the jesshorn and delica in burgandy and blue with zdp steel. (little more than you'd like to spend though) For a last thought, the spyderco tasman can be found with a yellow handle. -Plus she wont need to worry bout rust.
