EDC - how to keep Sebenza blad clean

Show me that you can remove the residue left from cutting tar paper with your "water and my shirt" method, and I won't completely dismiss your post as trollish and disrespectful.

Maybe he never cuts tar paper? I don't. I actually use water and shirt (or even spit and shirt in a pinch) sometimes also. Isn't easy to get glue off but works in a pinch.

On topic: I think Ballistol is my favorite answer so far.
I'm embarrassed that I forgot about Ballistoll. I've been interested in trying the stuff for a while.

The OP said he cuts boxes and tape. Who said anything about tar paper?

Cracks me up when people freak out about oil or chemicals on a blade making them sick. Really the amount of residue on the blade after you wipe it off is so small it would never hurt you. you have more chemicals on your hands from money our touching a counter our table that has been cleaned. You breath more crap out of the air in one day. I say use what ever works.

I meant that sticky things (tar, glue, whatever) sometimes need something to dissolve the adhesive.
Spit or water can only do so much.

I also hear good things about Frog Lube... and it has a spearmint smell. :D
Frog Lube is supposed to food-safe, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

This turns out to be a fun thread. I am glad to hear quite a few different things (materials) people use to keep their blades clean. I thought I was the only one.

Thank you for recommending Ballistol. This one seems the most promising of all.

Here is a link to more info I found just in case others are interested in them.

BTW, my wife looks at me funny when I take her best olive oil and apply it to the blade of the Sebenza. She just shakes her head.

ps: It would be cool to use Ballistol on my balisongs too.

Soap and water is how I usually clean mine. If the blade is particularity gummy I'll use some Rem Oil or similar, then soap and water.

For tape residue:

WD 40 1st

Corrosion-X 1st

Lighter fluid 2nd

Rubbing Alcohol 3rd

For rust prevention on blades:

Militec-1 or Corrosion-X around freshwater habitats.

That's what I use YMMV.

The best prevention is use. ;)

I like WD-40 or a quick shot of Triflow on the blade, with a paper towel to wipe off the gummy mess. Then some clean water and away we go.

Quick question, I bought some 91% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol to use on my blades.
Is it corrosive?

Alcohol of any kind shouldn't leave any residue behind, it usually evaporates into the air as you're rubbing it on. Rinse with water (soap if you wish) and dry with cloth.

It doesn't leave residue, I just wanted to know if cleaning my blades with alcohol could cause rust or pits?

Alcohol itself is pH neutral. It, by itself, does not cause rusting or oxidization. However, it's ability to remove any and all oil from a steel will leave it more susceptible to oxidization as permitable by that particular steel.
