I love my 7. And yes, it's a wharnie. It's not bad either. ;)

I have entirely too many knives with me today.

How do you like the Opera? Sturdy feeling? Any blade play?

I've been thinking about grabbing one. It kind of reminds me of the kabar dozier folders, but better materials obviously(which is mainly why I want one).

What kind of treatment did you do to the blade? Looks awesome!

It looks like an acid etch with fingernail polish painted on the bevel to protect it* (and give it that awesome finish).

*note the fingernail polish is so used to protect the tang area as well.

Thanks, CK. You nailed it. I paint the blade edge and all tang surfaces on folders, leaving the internals and blade edge polished. I use the Radio Shack-brand PCB Etchant to acidwash the blade, which gives it a bead-blasted-like finish ("cooking" times vary between 30 and 45min per desired finish). I then rub with 1200 grit wet/dry sandpaper to bring out the grind lines, spine, and corners. I think it gives these knives a very organic look, and makes me far less concerned with using them the way they were intended. Great knives!
