That Replicant...So awesome!
Amazing emerson!
I'm a little jealous ;)
Thanks brother! I've carried it a few days now but always forget to use it and end up using whichever Sebenza I have that day, out of habit.

Protech makes an incredible side opening auto, this one is no exception!

Been carrying this, I forged it this summer...its not finished and have the handle wrapped in paracord until I get some nice large pieces of elk antler to cut into scales.

Always a pleasure to see a blade being forged:) looking forward to seeing it fully dressed!

I've described the pattern as cosmic myself. I love the blue as well.

I was gambling it being a "non-damascus" backwoods custom lol.

Sounds like I may need some m4 in my collection.

My s35vn is what really has me thinking "when am I going to have to sharpen this stuff!"

Whole day of cutting zip ties, sacrete bags, asphalt bags, and I try to find some hair on my arm, and to my surprise (I find some ;) ) it shaves like it just came off the EP.

Oh man, if you like the edge retention of S35VN, you're going to love M4 (assuming you have no issue with maintaining carbon steel). Do you have any M390 in your collection?

Been alternating between my ZDP Dragonfly and G&G Hawk Beetle. The Beetle is sharp (factory edge), but not as sharp as the Dragonfly (my edge).

@zeta = thanks man. I'm really enjoying the replicant. It's everything a Bali should be. Would love a spring latch though. Brs has earned my respect. Come on Thursday! (AB arrival if I haven't said it enough :p)

@alex
I actually do not.
S35vn
3v
D2
W2
154cm
1095
San mai
And a few Damascus pieces
And that's about it.

I'll have to add m4&m390 to the wishlist.

The fixed blade in my picture (and my sebenzas) is what made the S35vn really stand out to me. It's a falls creek "urge" , it has been through every material I handle, and has just held up tremendously.

I think this will be a very common setup. What more do you need.

I'll agree with you on S35VN. I've had terrible experience with S30V, but S35VN on my TSF Beast has been phenomenal. Went through a pumpkin no problem, and doesn't seemed to have dulled at all. I mostly use it as my office edc opening mail and packages. Jim does an excellent job with it. M4 in my Gayle Bradley has been fabulous as well. I've had it for over a year and have only had to strop it.

I went through about 300 zip ties when changing logos on the downtown trashcans. During this, I slipped dozens of times, smacking the metal, hitting the tip, even once grazed the concrete very lightly with the edge. At the end of the day, I thoroughly examined the edge, not only did it hold a fine polish, I took it to my hair with the absolute tip of the cutting edge, and hair was still popping off my arm. I thought the hits the the metal logos, and trashcan cages would have really punished the blade near the tip. I was wrong. :)
(xm 18 3.5 spanto) it has seen one full sharpening session, and been stropped ever since. Really all my S35vn knives I have only sharpened 1 full session, and maintained with leather.
D2 takes a razor edge very easily, but don't use it to cut much.
3v has treated me well. My 2 dcl sheepsfoot knives may be the sharpest I own. The one with the right hand grind is just nasty. I haven't shaved with a typical razor in months, because I can just touch up my face at work with the sheepsfoot. The grinds have a lot to do with those.
My w2 custom fixed don't see much use, but sure take an edge well.

Yesterday's carry.

Yesterday's carry with 9 added and 24 instead of 11. Chopped up a desk with the 9 this morning.

I saw you mention M390 before. m390 is currently my favorite steel of all time, and I've gotta say, it takes a beating like none other (stainless-wise). I have only ever had to actually sharpen any of my M390 blades once, to profile the edge to a perfectly even bevel, and get them to a little better angle sometimes, but after that the occasional pass over the strop is all it takes.
It holds its edge, from my experience, better that S35VN by a very noticeable margin, and has a grain structure that cuts insanely agressively. It won't shave for a really long time, though, because of how the steel is designed. For me, I usually have to cut through some heavier and rougher materials, and M390 will eat it up like butter.
My cousin got the new 0562cf and was using it to cut through some large pieces of leather to test out the edge retention, and said he had the leather in bits too small to cut anymore, but could still shave his arm. Haven't tried it myself, but honestly I don't have as much scrap leather as someone who makes saddles ;)

Bottom line is you would probably like M390, but it does work differently than most other steels, and keeps a "laser" edge for a while, but keeps a "razor" edge forever, and is an insanely aggresive cutter.

By the way, any of you guys heard from Forrest these past few days? He's been MIA for a while, and is usually in here every day! Probably just busy.

Hey there, Z. He PM'd me just yesterday. I believe he posted that he had some friends over at his place. I'm sure he's just been a little wrapped up with his own stuff.

On a side note, I really appreciate the camaraderie found in this thread. For the most part, we're posters from every corner of God's green earth, and it puts a smile on my face to see everyone chatting each other up and building friendships over a monitor or cracked phone screen

By the way, here's my contribution today:

Your rhetoric is convincing me I need some S35VN (never tried it). And, actually, that Urge looks perfect. Oh, and I probably need one of those dqg lights. Dammit, Tmack.

Haha. Sebenza, hinderer, S35vn. Must be onto something!

And the dqg lights are awesome! Come with two tritium slots in the top, and are insanely bright for a light the size of the tip of your index finger.
