EDC Karambit Help- Knife Noob Needs Help

... I won't be ... twirling it around in public.

Are you sure you are not confusing a karambit and a balisong? There is no practice needed to use a kerambit. You just use it. You should train to use a balisong with a trainer if you dont want to slice yourself.

I would appreciate if from this point forward no one say that anything about getting in trouble with the law and just give recommendations.

THANKS

We dont always get what we want, and it would be irresponsible for us to not tell a minor that he could get in a ton of legal trouble by carrying a "kerambit." Which I'm pretty sure is a balisong. Butterfly knife,,,the thing you flip. And practice with.

Okay to talk about getting in trouble with your parents or do you not want to hear about that either?

You say don't worry about it and that nothing will happen but all it takes is one wrong situation, one wrong place wrong time, one jackwagon, and you're dealing with an officer who decides they don't like a kid carrying that kind of knife. You being a minor amplifies the whole situation tenfold.

Karambits and balisongs are completely different, but in Florida both are legal but if I got a balisong it would be a trainer.

I completely understand and when I read the law a minor getting in trouble for a knife is a big deal I didn't realize how serious a 1st degree misdemeanor is and I apologize to everyone who was telling me. If you guys would like to recommend to me a lower risk utility knife (something still interesting please) or a trainer karambit that be nice

Emerson makes a nice karambit trainer, but it costs quite a bit.

Both Fox and Emerson have training karambits that are considerably cheaper than their bladed models. I recently pick up an Emerson combat karambit, like everyone here has already said, buy quality, buy once, cry once.

I want to give you credit for this post. After reading the first exchange you had with Charlie Mike in the first three posts of this thread I didn't have much hope for a positive outcome. This post shows a lot of maturity. It takes courage to admit when you've been wrong, and most would have just dug in their heels and refused to listen to reason. I don't care how old you are, you handled this very wisely.

As for a knife suggestion, I would suggest you start out with a Swiss Army Knife or Case Peanut, as they are dang near guaranteed to not get you in trouble as long as you aren't looking for trouble. If those aren't interesting enough for you, check out the Kershaw line as they make some pretty inexpensive knives that would get you started down the path of knowing what you like and what you don't. If you're looking for something a little better a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian would be my suggestion. I've been carrying a Griptilian for a couple of weeks now, and it makes a wonderful EDC. The mini version is less likely to be taken as a weapon in my opinion, and thus less likely to get you in trouble. If you want something less weapony, but not as pedestrian as a SAK or Peanut take a look at the Buck 500 series. It's a nice lineup of lockback knives that are more gentlemanly, but still very reasonably priced.

Free piece of advice, you come onto a forum and ask the regulars advice, be polite and drop the attitude. Just from reading your short post history I can't imagine that you and your karambit will remain together for more than a few short months, though I could be wrong.

You can, however, find a fixed karambit trainer for around $40 even with particularly weak Google-Fu. If you really want something to mess around with, pick up one of those and pinch your pennies so you can get a quality blade when the time comes.

Lots of people with a scar on their wrist would disagree.

That's what I was thinking. If I ever wanted to flip it I would practice with a trainer but it looks like I won't be getting karambit so yeah. I think I might get a trainer balisong and just keep my Swiss Army Knife that I've had for a while.
