EDC Knife Under 6" overall

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a new EDC to fit within my school's knife carry guidelines. Basically, the overall length has to be under 6 inches, and it can't be an automatic or a balisong. Also, given the environment, it should be pretty sheeple friendl. I've looked through the forums and threads like these usually refer to blade length instead of overall length.

Personally I'd prefer the ff.:
-One-hand opening with decent lock
-Drop point blade
-Plain edge only
-Easy to pocket and carry

As I said, I'm a student, so ideally my budget would be at ~$40 max, though if there's a real quality folder to be had for a little more, I'd be willing to pay for it.
Also, only the ff. brands are available with any ease where I live:
Benchmade
Buck
Gerber
CRKT
Victorinox
Wenger

Any recommendations?

Update: Checked with the head of security, and it's just a visual check. Seems like they're fine with up to 6.5", though if there's a really good one 6' or below, I'll prefer that.

gerber mini fast draw, i have the normal sized 1 and i love it
gerber mini paraframe, havent had 1 but they look nice.

dont listen to the hate on gerber i think they are fine and iv personally had alot of experence with their products in the past 5 years

Thanks for the quick replies.
Re: Gerbers, I can't use the Quick Draw--it's considered assisted. I'll give the paraframe a look.

Strangely, most SAKs can't fit these guidelines. They're too long; basically, my only choice is the Vic Classics, and I'm not happy with carrying just that.

HI there, I got some good knife suggestions look at the kershaw crown or the kershaw g10 hawk, thats for the one hand opening or you could allways go with a spyderco grasshopper.
Edit:I noticed it has to be under 6" and the crown and the grasshopper fits the bill

Spyderco Ladybug, if you can get something other than the brands specified.

+1 on a Ladybug. You can even get it in a Salt series (H1 rust resistant) or ZDP-189, they're incredibly light, & come in a variety of colors. Also, I think Spyderco's Byrd line has a knife similar to the micro-Dyad. My micro-Dyad (In jigged brown bone) is an excellent "suit" knife, but it is well outside your budget limit.

I can get Spydercos, but the markup is horrible. For example, a Dragonfly would set me back more than 80$ and a Ladybug more than 60$.

You might want to check A G Russell's web site for his small lockback drop point folders in VG10. They may go slightly over your budget but they should fit in with your school's spec requirements.

oh sorry, didnt no u couldnt have assisted either, only suggested cause u said no autos and assisted and auto are different.

No problem; where I'm from (Philippines), they don't make a distinction. I'm trying to wean myself off of using them interchangeably. My mistake.

Sorry didnt no where u lived, since im in usa idk the Philippines laws, in usa in my state new jersey assisted is okay aslong as it has a safty and is opened by a thumb stud thumb plate thumb hole or flipper

I hear great things about the gerber paraframe and i dont see you having a problem with it aslong as you dont try to pry things with it just your edc cutting tasks will be fine.

Is the markup at the counter of a knife shop or anything shipped in? I ask, because I'm sure you could pickup one of those from a member in the F/S section. Just a thought. Also, does the OAL rule pertain to all knives or just lock-blade ones? Would a slip-joint or one of Spyderco's slip-joint models work?

That's at a shop. Hm...I'll check out the FS section then.

The rule pertains to all knives.

Update: Apparently if I buy from the US, I'll have to pay ~50% worth of customs fees, if it's allowed in at all, so it's not really an option anymore.

I got myself a smaller Vic for EDC, but now I'm hankering for a nice, small-medium locking folder
Out of the ones available locally, only the CRKT, Buck, Byrd (some models) and Kershaw dealers don't sell at a ridiculous markup rate, so I've narrowed it down to these:
CRKT Drifter
CRKT Lake
CRKT Pazoda
Kershaw Chill
Kershaw Crown II
Byrd Meadowlark
Buck Vantage

I'll be using it for general utility tasks. Gentleman's knife-like looks are a plus.

Feel free to suggest more knives, so long as it's from the above brands; I sort of want to reward them for not marking up so darned much.

Which one do you think is best?
