EDC knife under $60

I find that most any Spyderco will fire open faster than the ao knives I've handled. Then you have the option to also open the knife slowly/quietly/unobtrusively if thats what your surroundings call for.

If you want to keep it well under $60 then look at something like he tenacious. But I still say the best deals on the market are those sub $60 enduras that are floating around right now.

Personally, I don't like how the look of the enduras

Yeah, a lot of folks don't...until they start using one.

My real point was to have a look at some of the brands and models that open fast without the need for an ao mechanism. If you decide you need assisted opening that's fine, but you'll have to pass on a lot of great designs if that's a must. I'd say that most folks on a forum like this who own and use a decent variety of knives don't care for assisted opening.

If it MUST be assisted opening, for that price, I would say Blur. However, the Blur is better de-assisted, and there are better options out there for the price if you would go de-assisted, including the Delica and the Mini-Griptilian

Ok I will look them up,thanks.

I like the Rat 1 a bit better than the utilitac and I have carried both extensively. The Reason is the Huge stop pin on the Rat. The Utilitac's is half the size. (still a nice knife though)

Get a Rat 1 and Rat 2 for less than $60 combined and you will have both sizes. Makes sense to me.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Spydercos in general are great knives. I used to not like the way they look, and thought they all looked the same. Tried out a Paramilitary2 a few years ago after seeing some rave reviews. Now I own dozens of them and they are by far my favorite knife company. Really great quality all around and alot of great designs. Also one of the best companies for trying out new steels. The Delica and Endura are two of my favorite EDCs by them, and they fall in this price point, and even the base steel (VG-10) is an excellent steel for EDC for most people. They really grow on you the more you use them, too.

I'm going to ignore the auto open aspect of this and suggest the cold steel mini recon. Can be had under your price point and it's tough as nails. Great bang for the buck.

I wouldnt get assisted, most manual you can flip about just as fast, nicer to close, and more fun, also more options out there

Ontario RAT 1 and 2 can be had for under $30 each and open so fast you would think they are assisted. Spyderco Tenacious and Persistence are great knives in the $30-$40 range. In the $50 range I would suggest the Spyderco Delica 4 FFG. This is my standard EDC blade and is tough to beat at its price point. AO blades really offer little to no advantage over a manual opening folder. Most people who know how to handle a knife can open a manual folder as fast as any AO blade.

You can't go wrong with Spyderco or USA made Kershaw. The Blur is a great knife, but if you want a flipper, the Knockout looks great too.

If I had your budget I'd pick up a Delica or Endura. There is a reason those models have been around for almost 25 years!

If you're willing to stretch a bit further The Benchmade Mini Griptilian is fantastic too.

This has not been my experience with any of the Spyderco Lock Backs. Their other types of locks, yes, but not the lock backs.

Yes their lock backs are probably the least "flick friendly" of any of their knives. I can still get them to fire open really fast though with a "marble shot" flick of the thumb. But agreed, nothing like the fluidity of something like the paramilitary 2.

Yup, I can get my Endura and my daughters Native to flick open but it requires the marble action you mention and the Endura requires quite a bit of wrist action. It is hard to beat the compression lock on my PM2 for smoothness. Release the lock and the blade swings freely!

You can get a Kershaw Blur for as little as $40-45 NIB, and they go up to over $100, depending on blade steel...great EDC knife. I also like the Spyderco Tenacious for $35-40 (hell of a knife for the price).

Pony up $85 and you could get a Zero Tolerance 0350 blem...whole other league.

As mentioned, and not assisted, but the RAT-1's fly out with the proper technique. And you can get TWO for $60:
