EDC Lights?

Another vote for the Maratac AAA.
It's light weight & has a reversible clip allowing it to be clipped on the bill of a hat so you can use both hands to change a tire on a dark night on the side of the road.
(Yup..happened to me & the Maratac came in very handy and has plenty of output to get the job done in the dark.)

I like my Fenix E05, but got an Olight I3s EOS aaa light and it's pretty good quality. The Fenix is minutely smaller.

I started carrying a Fenix E01 on my key ring just to find out if having an EDC light would be useful for me. I was amazed how much I use it. The E01 is attached to my key ring with a small SS snap hook so it can be easily detached if necessary. Got it about a year ago and have not had to change the battery yet.

That reversible clip on the Maratec AAA is a great idea. I'll have to look in to that.....

mykel, I just love what you've done with that Opinel. What tool did you use to cut the jigging?

I'll toss in another vote for the Maratac AAA. I've been carrying this one daily for 3 or 4 years and it has never let me down. The 3 settings are perfect. Medium for most of my needs. I like that medium is the first setting instead of the second. Low for places like movie theaters and such. And the high beam is impressively bright for a torch that gets its power from only one AAA battery.

I love the Klarus Mi-X6 in Titanium. Uses one AAA. Very bright and has strobe and other options. Available on Amazon. But it is thin not chunky.

I recently bought a Fenix EO5, it is a pretty nice light. The only problem is the lanyard it came with is lame and the holes and their location caused any split ring to rub against the on/off button possibly causing wear and tear on the rubber button. Otherwise great AA light.

If you want a Maratac AAA buy them now. They seem to be out of stock more often and longer than when they are in stock. They also have a "personal flood light" AA body but the LED is on the side not the top like old GI flashlights. Been eyeing one of those.

Surefire > Powertac > Foursevens. All 3 make great lights, I haven't strayed outside of those 3 brands and haven't had a single light issue. For your price range I'd recommend surefire g2 > powertac e5 > Foursevens quark

4Sevens quark and Lumapower incendio are both quality lights. Can't go wrong with either, in my opinion.

Billym, on my E11 (which I assume you meant) I strung on a lanyard of 2mm cord, with a couple double fishermans to make an adjustable loop. I would agree that a keyring probably isn't the best idea with the fenix tail-button lights. I also agree that the stock lanyard is pretty poor, but since I've bought quite a few pieces of kit with very similar lanyards, I don't really consider it a part of the product. More of a free optional extra, and I make my own anyway.

Oops you are right it is not an EO5 it is an E12. 2mm cord will be too big for the holes. Still a good light.

How well do the modes work in the E12? the cord I use is a fairly soft weave climbing accessory cord.

I just got one of these and I'm really happy with it.

Its advertised as 300 lumens, but from what I've read its actually a little under 200 with a 14500 battery but its still amazingly bright even with just a AA. At least over 100 lumens with a AA from comparisons to my other lights. For $3-$4 from china or ~$5 from a US seller its really hard to beat. Mine is a 3 mode with high, low and strobe but there are a lot of 1 mode models out there too. It sounds like it can be a crapshoot which one you get but for the price I think its worth it either way. I'll definitely be picking a few more up in the future when I have some extra cash.

Also, the Thrunite Ti2 and TiS are pretty good smaller lights for not a lot of money. I don't own either yet but I intend to pick one up in the future, and I've only heard good things.

Eagletac D25A clicky. hands down the best most useful light I have ever owned.

Agree 100% with this, I've got the ti model which is a little more but you can get the aluminum version for around 40. You get the glow in the dark button, a lot of different modes and 186 lumens and great battery life.

I just picked up the Olight s10 and am VERY impressed with it. max output of 300+ lumens on one CR123...amazingly tiny in the pocket. Around $35 on fleabay

I recommend the Sunwayman M11R Elfin, over 230 Lumens, and built like a tank on steroids....

It should come in at $54.00 with a discount of 10% from a vendor who is not a paid sponsor here. Their coupon code is GGUSN10, and if you need help where to buy, PM me. It uses your commom CR123A battery, or with the optional extender, can use a AA battery which increases the lumen output to over 300.

I wasn't the OP on this thread, but I just took your advice and purchased one. I really like the simplicity of turning a ring, not the head. And it still has some nice features like strobe and SOS. Your recommendation and the YouTube video by the vendor you recommended sealed the deal. Excellent little light.

This model takes CR123 batteries, which are Li-on. I have been warned of exploding Li-on batteries. But from what I can see I'm far more likely to get in a car accident than have a single Li-on battery explode. I'll live dangerously...
