I'm looking for some help from you educated and not so edumacated HOGs. First the no restriction part, I am a plain clothes police detective so the laws about blade length don't apply. I've always carried a folder but I added a fixed blade in addition to the folder a while back.

Now that I have learned about INFI, I have to get me some. I would say thanks to all of you for teaching me but I have a feeling this is going to get expensive.

Anyway, my question is what would you recommend? I want to wear it on the belt and it shouldn't be so long that it would stick out below an untucked shirt. I initially thought maybe a SAR4 or BATAC but after using the search box it seems that a GW or AD are what alot of you are carrying. My only other request is that it be something I can find for purchase now. Any suggestions or information is appreciated.

SAR 3, AD, Meaner Street, High Street, SLUT, hell even a Boss Street might be nice.

Then again, the MOAB has a nice intimidation factor

Oh, a ratmandu might be nice, it's a Swamp Rat (Busse kin).

And yes, it gets expensive, very expensive, but it's worth it.

If you are concerned about price and want INFI you could look for a scrapper 5LE. I have a sr101 scrapper 5, probably my most used knife, its a great knife design with the comfortable handle.

Here are the Specs:

Steel: SR101
Handle: Resiprene C Mudder Style
Blade Length: 5 1/4"
Blade Thickness: Approx. 3/16"
Overall Length: 10 1/4"

If you call the shop, they may still be able to hook you up with an Anorexic Boss Street, that would be a great EDC...

Scrapper 5 LE on the belt & SAR 3 in the pocket everytime I leave the house. The Zilla not so much.

thanks for the job that you do and it is a thankless job believe me i know...
i would look at the culti or maybe one of the knives with the penetrator tip, because being a detective a lot of interesting tasks come your way. a culti would make a great boot knife, the boss street is a good suggestion along with the sar 3, all of these are on the exchange, almost daily and at very good prices.

I would consider that the fixed blade will be used for those tougher tasks (that includes prying, I know, I know), while the folder conducts all of the finer slicing that you require.

I would keep my thickness above 1/4" and think more about tip integrity than anything - you don't need a Tankbuster, but a BATAC or BATACLE in an IWB kydex sheath would be near-bombproof. If you need something smaller, I would consider one of the mid-sized Game Wardens at .270" - the .320" that I used to own was a sharpened railroad spike, but was too thick to be of much utility when cutting. .270" is a good thickness. :)

Hope that helps!

Brad

EVERY time you leave the house??? How many miniature zombies are there in AZ???? ;)

Seriously - what's the logic behind 2 blades? Just curious.

The Boss Streets are a good choice, but I would say also look at the leaner meaners. Blade is a tad more beefy which might suit your needs more since you also carry a folder.

The meaners are not as bulky as the batacs but you don't give up too much in usable blade length and they are nearly as strong. No point in carrying a fixed blade that is only slightly longer than a folder IMO.

I appreciate all the suggestions guys.

M67 - My Ratmandu shipped this morning according to the email:)

I'll take a look at the Scrapper 5 but I have a question about the SAR3 in the front pocket. How do you get it back in the sheath? Take the sheath out?

I looked at the ABS before it disappeared it just didn't sing to me, if you know what I mean, but I'll go back and take another look.

I don't have any restrictions eather on blade length this is USA

Oops sorry I was dreaming of freedom

+1 on abs

What about the regulare boss street little more mass

Mmmmmmm abs and 1911 pure greatness

One in each hand!!!!!

I often carry a fixed blade and a folder, just because I can.

I pocket carry the BAD every day, with a deep pouch leather sheath with a heavy gun clip attached. Clipped in the front right pocket so the clip and just the top of the handle attached.

Also, horizontal carry on the front of the right hip with a tech lock sheath works great as well.

I have also done this type of carry (both pocket clip sheath, and tech lock horizontal sheath) with a GW and a SS.

I really love the CABS, and will probably alternate carry with that when I get around to making a front pocket clip sheath for it.

Both the BAD and the CABS are thinner (especially the BAD).

If you are thinking heavier duty, go with a regular AD, or regular Boss Street. Both will be tough enough for anything you can think of.

Boss Street also has much more meat on the exposed spine, and can break windows better.

The Mean Streets also have a "tail' on the end which would work for breaking windows.

Yes, pretty much every time I leave the house it is with what I wear while working at the house so I don't disarm for the sheeple in town. I do it because I can. There are too many "zombies" for my taste in AZ is where I am from, but that is not where I live now for a reason. I traded in 56 people per square mile in a dry desert for a place where there are less than 10 people per square mile with lots of water/trees precisely so I can enjoy my freedom. People need rules and having more people equals more rules however having more rules does not equal having more freedom. ;)

Seriously, the SAR 3 is the hard worker for digging/prying or whatever that I don't worry as much about keeping sharp and the Scrapper 5 LE is the slicer that I keep very sharp. I could get by with just one ok, but I would be doing a lot more sharpening that way.
