EDC on the belt - no restrictions!

I have several folders, but for a small tough fixed blade at 3 inches, which will not show, the Busse SAR 3 in my opinion is the best choice. If its been sharpened and profiled by Garth or just say not by the Inspector 11, its a great sharp tough fixed small blade. I use mine every day in the front pocket or side coat pocket with a small custom leather pouch. The blade will keep its sharpness with a weekly few strokes on the 1000 grit sand paper and strop. Honestly, its a great fixed blade, as long it has been sharpened and profiled correctly.

I am a detective so laws do not apply? aint that the truth

 Here in Indiana we have had a growing number of problems with police thinking like this...

mworley13 & drbarnes... If you have a problem with law enforcement personnel, take it elsewhere. :grumpy:
Consider yourself warned.

That's NOT how we treat new guys or fellow forum members here. You can take your comments to Whine and Cheese.

Lets's Drink!!!

Exactly.

LVC - sorry I didn't mean that was all I thought it would be used to cut, just some examples. I could certainly see a time when it could be used to pry open a door or to pry up a floorboard.

Hey guys its been suggested to me that my initial post may have sounded...pompous. Like I was flaunting that the rules don't apply to me because of my profession. I am sorry if I offended anyone here, I'm new and don't want to get off on the wrong foot. In my initial post I wanted to communicate that I had done my research looking at past threads and I hadn't seen any threads that addressed my particular situation. Like I've said I appreciate all the info I have received and apologize to anyone who was offended.

badboy8913, I didn't see it like that and I feel that many others got your drift. If you want to clarify your post, you are most certainly welcome to do so, but those 2 individuals don't need to interject with negative comments concerning LEO's in general, period.

This is a LEO/Military/First Responder friendly forum as well a family friendly forum. Welcome!

Back to the Op's question .... I find these two to be the best choices for similar needs and uses to that which you have ....

Tim has already mentioned the benefits of the Scrapper 5LE and the other blade is a Basic 5 ... it is .25 thick and comes with an Assymetrical ground edge and a Res C handle which like the S5LE is very comfortable and a very "sure grip" ....

The Basic 5 though is "very" hard to find on the exchange .... so is the S5LE but there are one or two every now and then ....

Don't let the lack of "slicing" ability of some of the thicker knives deter you.

They will cut what ever you need to be cut while on duty. You won't make the best apple slices, but you can cut seat belts, zip ties, cut a hole in the dry wall, pry wood panneling and car panels apart with no concern with those thicker models.

I EDC'ed a .22 Game Warden for a few years. I convex the edge, and it was plenty good at cutting and slicing, and heavy enough for prying and forcing things open.

Taking the edge a bit thinner and moving the shoulder up a bit (especially a nice convex edge with a higher shoulder) can make a huge difference.

I would not use my BAD for prying, without expecting to loose a good bit of the tip.

I also would not use my CABS for heavy prying at all. I bought both of them as slicers!

I have to admit, I had a SS (pretty thin, and a great slicer) that I pried wood with a bit just to be naughty. No problem. So in an emergency situation I would pry with the CABS and I bet it would do better than I am giving credit for no question ( I know the steel is tough, I just would hate to ruin anything).

If I did not post it earlier, welcome to our forum. Don't worry about people giving you a hard time on here. It is pretty standard. Things can be a bit "locker roomish" on here, and often the humor in a post is missed, because when people are reading, they can't read the poster's mind or see the smile and tongue in cheek.

In my neck of the woods Police are exempt from most general fire arm carry rules (concealed carry, switch blades, etc).

as long as your carrying INFI or SR101- your gonna b good. carry a crappy gerber or cold steel- then u might have probs.

I'm certainly no LEO, but I carry a BOSS Street and am very happy with it. I have carried bigger, but they sometimes get caught on stuff, especially when getting in and out of my vehicle. The Dumpster Mutt is pretty awesome, too, but it doesn't hold and edge like INFI or Swamp Rat's SR101, in my experience.

Also, leather is bulkier and heavier than kydex, but it DOES flex and keep doing its job where kydex can snap.

If you are concerned about price and want INFI you could look for a scrapper 5LE. I have a sr101 scrapper 5, probably my most used knife, its a great knife design with the comfortable handle.

Here are the Specs:

Steel: SR101
Handle: Resiprene C Mudder Style
Blade Length: 5 1/4"
Blade Thickness: Approx. 3/16"
Overall Length: 10 1/4"

:thumbup::thumbup:.....carry mine every day......
