Love the trapper, but too big for dress pants, which I often have to wear. Carried small knives for years, but my sweet spot is also about 3 and 1/2 inches: either a medium stockman or a mini trapper. Carry the stockman more (in my pocket now).
I feel the trapper is a perfect size pocket knife with its 3-inch blade, but if I am wearing dress pants, which I often have to do, the knife is pretty conspicuous laying horizontally in the bottom of my pocket. It's over 4 inches closed and is a little bulky. Fits fine in my Wranglers or on a belt sheath. A medium stockman is a better EDC I can carry no matter what I am wearing.Interesting that you mention the trapper is too big. I carry a trapper as a backup, while my main blade is usually a modern folder with a blade of 3.5”. I’ve always loved the trapper pattern, but in actual usage, I tend to feel the blades are too long for a traditional Slipjoint. I may try out something like a Case Mini Copperlock.
What's that slippie? Kind of reminds me of my TA Davison.
