jemelby said:Teachers ought not carry knives at all.
Given the deplorable behavior of a select few children, and generally declining behavior in most of the rest, a teacher armed with a knife is liable to be inclined to use it one one of the lovely little hooligans.
jemelby said:(...) My wife's a teacher, and has been attacked by a couple kids (3rd grade). She has come home with minor cuts and scratches a couple of times. Unfourtunatly, the kids keep getting sent back to the class room.
silenthunterstudios said:I don't care if the kid slaughtered an entire classroom, if it got out in the news that a teacher defended herself with a Delica against a kid with a knife, she would be crucified!
yam said:On my keychain I have:
Vicorinox Rambler (about the same size as a Classic, but a few more tools.)
P-38 can opener
Swiss-Tech Microplus 8in1 tool
In my watch pocket:
Spyderco Jester.
Though I am not a teacher and also carry a full sized knife, I have never raised an eyebrow with any of the above mentioned..
nelsonmc said:Was wondering, do you find the Jester to be pretty useful for it's size? It's kinda small like a Ladybug right? Just seems kinda uncomfy but I've always like the looks of it...

silenthunterstudios said:I haven't really EDC'd my Jester, but from the few times I've used it, it feels great in the hand and cuts well, those finger grooves work wonders as well!
yam said:Though small, I find it (Jester) easy to open with one hand and the blade is actually big enough to do quite a lot and locks (which I like) and it's easy to hold onto. IMHO the Jester is much more useful than the blade on my Victorinox Rambler. For a nice smaller knife I think the Jester is well worth the (approximately) $15.00- $20.00.
nelsonmc said:They go for about $20 these days right? I might have to get one. I just don't like the idea of buying before I can try it, all the ones I've seen come in a blister pack so I can't feel it out first. I like the idea of the finger grooves, seems like it would add some much needed leverage.
Ah cool, I have a Victorinox Rally on my keychain now. I've always wanted a Jester, maybe I can fit both on my keychain.. For $15, mmm sounds good, must get Jester.
yam said:Put it to you this way, and this is just my personal opinion. If the Jester was the only knife I had with me to get me through my daily activities, I'd be perfectly fine. For most of the things I need throughout the day, like opening packages and letters, cutting string/twine, sharpening a pencil, etc, etc, etc ....... the Jester works excellent. You won't regret having one.
silenthunterstudios said:When my Ladybug goes the way of the dodo, I am replacing it with my Jester as my small EDC.
