EDC Recommendation

without reading anything besides the first post, i would have to say spyderco Caly3. Its a mini tank that cuts like a scalpel and never startles the sheep. You can get black g10 with vg10, or for a bit more, carbon fiber in zdp. I have the vg10 and its great.

Plus its almost undetectable in your pocket.

How about this:

You can find this Griptillian at Cabelas. Available in plain or serrated.

Two words. Bradley Alias II. Well that's three words... actually, two words and a number, but still...

Great knife; clean, 'gentlemanly' looking, strong, great steel (S30V), titanium handle, stays sharp under duress. Get one.

A Kershaw Blur may be too big - my red one has seen a lot of toting and using - the sandpaper skateboard tape grips are finally worn down! The Blur, Scallion, and Leek are available in a wide number of colors/handles... even 'Jeep scenes'! As to blades, that Damascus Leek was a short run - watch for another run. You can get the Blurs in SG2 or S30V blade material - in nicely colored handles. I won't suggest that $40 Wally World Spyderco Native in S30V... it may look tactical and it is black-handled - but what a bargain!

Have you looked at the CRKT knives? I don't like their extra lock but they make a number of blade shapes in green anodized frames that aren't too aggressive looking.

I'd recommend a search of NewGraham or AGRussell. There are lots with colours and/or wood handles--both of which make a knife look less 'tactical'. For me blade shape plays a large part in the non-tactical look too, after all the handle is mostly hidden in your hand.

The Stainless Spydercos already mentioned here are a solid choice and in budget.

Kershaw Splinter in Quince wood.

You already know about the Leek, many, many handle colors to choose from. Priced right. AO.

If you want a screaming deal on a VG10 blade. Silky smooth action, deep pocket clip (tip down). Different color handles 3.3" Blade. 4.3" closed look at the Browning (Made by Mcusta) Fire Storm. They are on blow out here for 26.95!!! http://www.cdnninvestments.com/bricestlilok.html I have bought 3 of them when they were 39.95 last summer and they are super! Don't let the sale price fool you, they are more than worth it.

I was going to add the Benchmade Opportunist but no pocket clip :(

For something cheap but really a good knife is the Byrd Robin with stainless handle-around 20 bucks. The steel used in those knives is great. The Browning F3X linked above also looks interesting.

Kershaw Rainbow Leek.
Yeah, the steel is only 440A, but it cuts very well.
And everyone who has seen me use it has only positive things to say....especialy the ladies.
This one might be too pink for you (it's my wife's), but there are other ones that are more blue.
