Hey all. I'm brand new to these forums, which is obvious :p, and would like to know what Spydercos you guys use for EDC and what you would recommend.

My price range is somewhat limited (no more than $65). Keep in mind that I don't plan on cutting wood or anything but just need it for light tasks. Thanks.

hi welcome. i am new to Spyderco myself. I carry a Kershaw Blur plain edge for work.(6 years) I used to carry a CRKT Hisastsu folder. I now carry a Spyderco Endura Wave (comboedge). It is a great lightweight knife. Full size, thick blade.. sharp!. I have always wanted waved knife. I also bought a Tasman H1 plain edge. This will be my beach knife. super lightweight with a great hawkbill blade.

i got a ka bar warhog for around 14 bucks. it's a pretty cool little knife that's handled everything i've thrown at it so far.

Top is one work the bottom home EDC.

i don't think those 2 fall under the OP $65 limit, tho they are great EDC's, especially the Para IMHO.

Funny. I have a Kershaw Blur, Tanto. I bought it because it looks sick but to be honest, it's not a good EDC knife. It's heavy, its clip messes up my pants and it doesn't slice that well.

I've heard great things about the Delica, Endura and Tenacious. I'm really hesitant to pick up a Tenacious because of it cutting nutnfancy and cutlerylover (as seen on youtube.com).

I have looked at Salt 1 and Salt Ladybug. Any of you guys have them?

Endura Wave SE, or Salt1/Pacific Salt. The Wave SE has shallow serrations that don't rip cuts like some serrated edges, it cuts more cleanly like a PE. That said, it has the benefits of much improved edge retention over a PE. The Wave feature is both fun and functional.

The Salt 1/pacific Salt are great no worry knives that are rustproof while also having good edge retention. I would pick whichever one fits your size requirements, but both are lightwieght with excellent edge geometry from the factory with no corrosion worries at all.

For $100 or so delivered (if you look on the forums) you can get a CPM D2 Para, and I really like mine. The steel takes an excellent edge and holds it a long time, the knife is very ergonomic, and the comp lock is super strong, simple, ambidexterous, and reliable. My personal favorite Spyderco ever is the Superhawk for it's tremendous ergonomics, the same great comp lock as the Para, and it's wonderful cutting relaxed hawkbill blade and super grippy CF handles. It is, however, way over your price point.

 The blur might be a bit heavy... but the aluminium frame gives great durabilty. Im a car painter, and ive used that knife from opening cans.. cutting tape, plastic, boxes.. ive hammered lids closed, and ive opened beer bottles.. its hard to find a replacement for this knife.

with that said.. i highly recommend the Tasman salt.. i wish it came in all black.. check the delica black model if you like that.. its a medium size frame.

Hello and welcome to BFC.
I would say get a Tenacious. It is a great EDC blade w/ full flat ground blade and G-10 scales. The steel is okay, but it is easy to sharpen and has been great for my cutting tasks. Plus the knife is very affordable, with time you may want to explore other more expensive knives from Spyderco like the Delica and you can save some money in the meantime. If the Tenacious is too big for you then go with a Delica or a Dragonfly in VG-10. Good luck!

You should get a Delica or dragonfly.

Right now I EDC a UK penknife, before the UKPK it was a military, before the military it was a d2 para.

Gunmike1 - Thanks for the clarification. I've been reading up on Spyderco's new Salt series. I must admit that I'm thoroughly impressed. No rust steel?!

I have a feeling that once I have enough cash, I'll be getting a Salt 1. ;)

SparkyMark86 - Thanks for the kind welcome. These forums are way nicer than a lot of the other ones I've visited. I was seriously considering picking up a Tenacious but I've seen it cut two experienced knife handlers (nutnfancy and cutlerylover) on youtube. It just makes me feel wary.

hkpistole - Keep in mind that I have the Tanto Blur. The shape of the blade is more of a tactical design, meant for stabbing. As an EDC, I do more slicing than anything else. That's why I'm looking for a non-Tanto design.

The Talisman looks cool but I don't know how useful it would be.

for your price range, I would say a Tenacious or a delica, depending on size and weight and handle material preference.

D1omedes, i think you'll love the salt series. they are super lightweight. It was the 1st Spyderco for me...im hooked

Nice. Is there any blade play? The only downside to many Spyderco designs, IMO, is that there's usually no pivot screw to adjust for that.

How do you like the Talisman design? Does it's shape help or hinder what you do with the blade?

What he said!!

Sorry! I over looked the limit.
No problem. I like those models but don't have the cash to pick them up. :)

KiloGolf92 - Like I've said already, I was considering the Tenacious. However, I've seen it cut two people on youtube (nutnfancy and cutlerylover) and am wary of that knife.

Does anyone know if there's going to be a new Dragonfly released this year? Hopefully it has some jimping and a better clip.

If you close a sharp knife on your thumb you will get cut period! It is not an issue unique to the tenacious. Spyderco knives are SHARP out of the box, much more so than some others out there. The only cut I have received recently was in a knife store when I was sloppy with my pinky when closing a ZDP Caly 3. It drew blood instantly. If you buy a tenacious you will be fine provided you do not fully close the knife with your thumb on the liner lock in front of the blade. The Military would do the same. With a liner lock you must disengage the lock then close the blade when your thumb is clear not try to unlock and close in one motion.
