Edc recommendedation

There'll probably be some attractively priced Anniversary Mean Street BGs on the exchange soon. They were offered with a pretty deep discount when purchased with an SFNO BG, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who was really only after the SFNO BGs, but picked up a couple AMS BGs becaue the deal seemed too good to pass up.

I don't think Busse has started shipping those yet, but they have started running the charges on people's credit cards, so the knives should start showing up in the next week or so.

My two cents regarding a Busse Kin for an EDC role:

Busse Combat: Skeleton Key, Skeleton Warden, Mean/Meaner Street, Lean/Leaner Street, War Boar, Sus Scrofa

SRKW: Swamp Warden, Rat Tail, Hairy/Harry Caray/Carry, Rodent Solution, Rodent 3

SYKCO: Scrapavore, 311, 411, Skinner, Mud Mutt

:nevreness:

I own or have owned all these and would highly recommend it:

5 inch range: Infidu, Ratmandu, Mud Mutt, Safety Mutt, Gentleman's Knife
4 inch range: Street Scrapper 4 (INFI), SOB, Skinner
3 inch or less: HRLM, Rodent Solution, Scrapivore CG

+1 on the HRLM if you are lucky enough to locate one

So what is the difference between swamp rat and scrap yard and busse?

Scrap yard uses Res C (Rubberish) handles.. and sr101 steel.
Swamp Rat is micarta handles and Sr101 steel
Busse is Micarta and G10 handle options, blade finish options and primarily their legendary INFI steel (though the "Battle Grade" series is sr101)
all carry the AWESOME Busse Warranty.

The differences are the steel SR-101 and INFI-The INFI version will cost more-The Mean Street Ergo which was recently offered is just a tad longer than the 8 inches (8.5 inches) you were looking for The Anniversary Mean Street is also excellent at about 8 and 1/4 inches-I will be carrying the Busse S.O.S. (Son of Swat) 9.25 inches overall when I receive it- Good luck

Lot's of good advice here, this is my $0.02..

If you are just starting out go Infi. SR101 is fantastic steel but lets face it, if you want to experience Busse you may as well do it with their flagship steel. The merits of each have been well discussed here but infi is infi and along with it comes a certain pride of ownership the IMO isn't quite matched with the other offerings.

eBay can be your friend if, like anything there, you are a smart shopper. There is a Magnum Bear Cub on there now currently at $160 ending in a few days, will probably sell for well under your price range (my prediction is under $250) and is the smallest knife they have made that I am aware of. I just won an unused High Street for $260 this morning. It will be sheathed and immediately inserted into the EDC rotation. Also, the guy with the red background is not an accurate representation of Busse pricing.

As mentioned, keep an eye on the sale forums here, lots of great deals especially with O2W going on. One of the guys in another thread mentioned always checking the for sale section after a new O2W knife launches and I had to chuckle at how true it was.

Enjoy! I have been involved in this hobby/business/lifestyle a long time and the Busse community is the best on the Interweb.

SAR3, though I'd suggest convexing and thinning out of the edge: to me, a non-defensive EDC's defining characteristic is sliceyness, and the stock SAR3 is a tad thick behind the edge for my taste (despite it actually being thinner stock than the AMS, I think).

A Max Duty would be great, if you can find one.

I guess it all depends on what you are using it for. Great for you if you can EDC knives that can be up to 8 inches.

One on my favs is the Rodent 3. Great, solid... The butt end of it fits perfectly in the palm of my hand. Short handle means it doesn't rub up on you even if you have a " body hugging" sheath. The Game Warden is one that I'm waiting on, for the same reasons that I like the R3. The GW butt end is even rounder, so probably more comfortable.

For larger size blades.... Just about any 4 inches and more Busse/ Swamp Rat/ Scrapyard knives will do.... I'm very partial to the SOB and, the great, wonderful, ASH-1.

Wow! I am amazed at the response on this forum. I've been an undying fan of spyderco for a while now, and that's partially due to the community there is. With the little bit I've seen, yall might even be better! Thanks!

We are the best community but keep that quiet. To be truthfully honest, we are more like a support group for your newfound addiction. Buy a chunk of INFI and let the addiction settle in. Then you find yourself dreaming about more INFI, next you're selling any obsolete knives you have because you just bought a Busse. Then before you know it, you'll be one of us just wishing you had em all.

its become quite a group of friends.. an having the owner an crew of Busse interacting with all of us makes it a pretty lively forum. not to mention how they are always giving us the chance to win shop credit.. I love it here!! we welcome you with open arms!!

For EDC I like a sub 4" blade in uncoated INFI. I like the INFI over SR101 due to the corrosion resistance. So here's a few of my choices.

The boney active duty is a great edc with about a 3.5" blade.

The Cultie (Cutellus) is about the same size as the BAD and is also a great blade.

The SAR3 is genius... it's as natural in the hand as any knife I own.
