Does the Assist II FRN / Spyderco-C79BK2 also have the glass breaker in it as well or just the assist I ?
It does not say it does. In pictures of the I, I can see a hole but can't in the same view of the II. I don't think it does.

While reading this thread I've just about talked myself out of "needing" a punch on the knife and am going to make a point of just carrying a dedicated tool. That way I can give the punch to somebody else if the need arises.

Only one model has the glass breaker This explains why.

The good thing about the ResQMe is that the tip is concealed within the body of the tool, so it wont wear holes in your fire kit, or dig into you when you are crawling around.

Kuul - 1st post for me, so h all, been lurking for a while. To give my $0.02 I have the Microtech Socom mini elite (auto) for EDC on the job (paramedic).

Blade is matte, 1/2 serrated, made from S60-V
can be used as a seatbelt cutter w/o opening blade,
has titanium stud in butt or handle for breaking glass.

Been using it for about 4 months now and LOVE it, It has also been my EDC for most off-days too.

Good luck

i work as a resident firefighter and i always carry my leatherman skeletool and a houdini rescue tool for the simple fact that it has a window punch seat belt cutter and flashlight. and we have hydraulick rescue tools so anyother things that i need cut i can take care of with cutters or spreaders. so i have no need for a knife that will cut anything else. but if you are looking for something to cut you out of your own vehicle when you wreck if you need to get out ie fire or your drowning then the houdini rescue tool is still great but whatever you use make sure its on you, because a knife in your glove box is useless if the other car is on top of your passenger side. :) god bless and lets hope you dont ever have to use your knife to cut yourself out of a wreck

I think OP has already settled on a knife about 5 years ago...

What does the foum think is the best edc to help in a rescue situation mayby a car crash?I have got a Smith and Wesson 1st Responce.

Are you intending rescuing a victim out of vehicle or is this in case you cannot exit your car? Looks like the former.

My suggestion is:
Have a crowbar/pry bar - a big one in the boot of your car.
Have a Benchmade Houdini Pro to get through their window and cut their belt. I researched and this is the least fiddly one. You won't think straight in an emergency. You need EASY! It's bright, glass breaker is easy to use, the hook is superb, and has an LED just perfectly placed for strap cutting at night. Also has a clip and sheath.

With a regular pommel glass breaker you're liable to cut your hand or wrist. And a rescue knife with too multi-functions will be too fiddly amidst the stress (which blade do I open for this situation).

You could also have a regular knife on hand too (but doubt it will be used. Maybe for 1st aid).

Surefire Delta
- titanium construction with S30V blade.
- Glass breaker
- seatbelt cutter.

OR

Victorinox Rescue tool. - a knife that actually won awards for being a rescue tool.

My vote goes to the Spyderco Assist. IMO, it really should be the one called the "Rescue" as it has more features related to such situations, but I think the actual Rescue model came out first.

Spyderco Assist:
Features:
-Blunted tip and sheepsfoot blade to protect people when cutting their clothes
-Mostly serrated edge
-Glass Breaker when squeezing knife while closed
-Cobra hood for quicker opening
-High pitched whistle
-Wave shaped spine for easier gripping in closed position
-Comes in safety orange option for high visibility
